1 New Graduate Student Orientation Schedule Spring

2 Monday, January 6, a.m. 4:30 p.m. Stuart School of Business Check-In (GRADUATE STUART STUDENTS ONLY) Ballroom Communication Advancement (PCA) if required, and meet other Stuart students! Students only need to Tuesday, January 7, 2014 Due to the IIT Campus Closure, ALL Orientation Check-In activities are cancelled for Tuesday January 7, 2014 Wednesday, January 8, a.m. 5 p.m. Residence Hall Check-In (HOUSING CONTRACT REQUIRED) McCormick Student Students attending orientation who also have a housing contract in MSV, SSV, or Gunsaulus Hall are Village; Residence & able to move into their room assignments beginning today. Please visit the Residence and Greek Life Greek Life office to check-in before proceeding to your room assignment. You may contact RGL with your questions or for more information. You may also visit or call Please note that the residence halls officially open on August 14, 2013 so services prior to this date may be limited. 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Stuart School of Business Check-In (GRADUATE STUART STUDENTS ONLY) 10 W. 35 th Street Communication Advancement (PCA) if required, and meet other Stuart students! Students only need to Main Lobby 9 a.m. 1 p.m. Pick Up Your HawkCard! Hermann Hall Smile big! You will be getting your picture taken for your ID card as well as picking up any HawkCard Office information you may need about parking on campus. 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Orientation Early Check In (STRONGLY RECOMMENDED) McCormick Tribune Pick up your Orientation materials and meet other IIT students! The Orientation Leaders will be Campus Center available to answer any questions you may have about Orientation. Welcome Center 10:30a.m. noon Meet Your Program Director Meet your faculty Program Director and learn about the merits of your academic program as a whole. 10 W. 35 th Street The Stuart Academic Advising team will then hold a Group Advising Session during this program to answer questions course selection and registration, PCA, ACE and much more. MSF students - EMS, MAC and M.B.A. students -, Bronzeville Room, 6 th floor M.P.A. students -, University Room, 6 th floor 1:15 4:30 p.m. Stuart Graduate Orientation (THIS SESSION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL FULL-TIME GRADUATE STUART STUDENTS) 10 W. 35 th Street Join the faculty and staff of the Stuart School of Business as they welcome you to IIT. During this session 1 st Floor you will receive detailed information on the resources available to you at Stuart and the tools you will need to be successful both as a student and in your career. Program Directors, current students, and the staff that will support you both academically and professionally will be on hand to guide you through this engaging afternoon and answer your questions. Thursday, January 9, a.m. 4 p.m. Orientation Headquarters/Check-In Open Hermann Hall If you did not have the opportunity to check in for Orientation yet do so here! You will also meet your orientation leader and receive IIT swag. *Stuart students should also check in with the Stuart table to pick up Stuart-specific materials. 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Stuart School of Business Check-In (GRADUATE STUART STUDENTS ONLY) 10 W. 35 th Street Communication Advancement (PCA) if required, and meet other Stuart students! International Student Program for Graduate Students (Required for all International Students) 2 p.m. 5 p.m. Immigration Basics & Employment for International Students Hermann Hall All F-1 and J-1 international students are required to attend this session. Students will learn how to maintain immigration status and comply with U.S. laws and regulations. Students will also be introduced to the International Center staff and resources available through the International Center. Introduction to American and Classroom Culture Come and learn about basic nuances of American culture both in and out of the classroom. This portion of Orientation is designed to help you be successful both in the classroom with your professors and in your day to day interactions with American citizens. Page 2

Students only need to 8 a.m. 4 p.m. Orientation Headquarters Open Hermann Hall If you missed the Orientation Meet and Greet, you may pick up your Orientation materials at this time. *Stuart students should go to the 13 th Floor instead to pick up Stuart-specific materials. 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Your Home Away From Home: Commuter Students Hermann Hall This session will help commuter students learn helpful tips and tricks for navigating IIT s commuter Armour Dining Room student experience. 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Your Home Away From Home: Residential Students Wishnick This session is mandatory for all residential students. This session is an introduction to Residence and Greek Life on campus, with an emphasis on transitioning to collegiate life. This will provide an overview of important policies and procedures for the residential communities and what it means to GO GREEK at IIT! 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Student Resource Fair Explore the Student Resource Fair to learn about important resources from around campus Bridge Banks: TBD Cell Phones: TBD Car Sharing: TBD 10:15 a.m. University Welcome Hermann Hall Join the Dean of Students for your official welcome to IIT s community. 10:30 a.m. Academic Expectations Hermann Hall Dr. Jamshid Mohammadi, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor in Mechanical Materials & Aerospace Engineering, and Nadya Lesova, Director of IIT Stuart Academic Advising, will talk about how to be academically successful at IIT. 11:15 a.m. Sexual Harassment Prevention Hermann Hall Learn how you can prevent sexual harassment on IIT s campus. 11:25 a.m. Ethics in the Profession Hermann Hall Bob Anderson, Director of Technology Transfer & Intellectual Property, will talk about intellectual property, ethical issues in professional activities and business, and the IIT Academic Code of Honesty. This session will focus on how to utilize federal financial aid award offers, how scholarships and federal aid are applied to student bills and how to make payments to the university. 1:50 p.m. Student Conduct Hermann Hall Learn the ins and outs and ups and downs of being an IIT student. This presentation will cover basic expectations for student behavior, including the IIT Code of Conduct, Civility Creed, sexual harassment prevention, the disciplinary process and privacy laws. 2 p.m. 4 p.m. Stuart School of Business Open Advising Hours (GRADUATE STUART STUDENTS ONLY) IIT Downtown Campus If you have questions that have not been answered in a Stuart Group Advising Session, drop in to see 565 W.
