1 VOLUME 4, ISSUE 8 MAY 2015 Highlights from the past few WestStar Sessions Nashville Special thanks to the Waller Law Firm who allowed WestStar to meet for the Nashville session. They are located on the top floor of the Nashville City Center and feature a first-rate view of the Nashville downtown area. TBI Director, Mark Gwen, was one of our presenters at the Nashville session. He gave a very interesting and informative talk on the hot topics in his respective fields. WestStar was proud to have UT President, Joe DiPietro present to the class. Ripley/Dyersburg The students at Dyersburg Middle School taught the WestStar class about technology in the classroom with ipads. (The 1991 WestStar Class was taught how to turn on a computer. We ve come a long way!) The class had their reception at the Full Throttle Distillery and Michael Ballard, owner, was present. This was an awesome place to visit. Alamo /Humboldt/ Trenton The Class of 2015 toured Safari Park in Alamo. Safari Park is a great day trip destination if you are planning a day-cation. Lt. General John Castellaw talked to the class about drones being used for climate control, agriculture, and homeland security. While the class was in Gibson County, the class visited the new Natural Gas Fueling Station in Trenton.
2 2015 Leaderscast WestStar was privileged to sponsor the 2015 Leadercast held at The Star Center in Jackson on May 8, Leadercast Live is a one-day leadership event broadcast LIVE at The Arena at Gwinnett Center to hundreds of locations around the world. Visit Leadercast.com to see some of the information that was discussed that day West Tennessee Small Business Conference This year kicked off the first ever West Tennessee Small Business Conference. We had a wonderful turnout of 75 participants with fifteen counties being represented at this conference. It was held at the First United Methodist Church in Jackson. Thank you to Michael Caruso for being the keynote speaker and the presenter for the day. The conference was specifically targeted to small business and nonprofits. Plans for next year s conference are already being put into action. 17th Annual African American Leadership Conference This year s conference was held on April 17th at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. We had a great turnout of 140 participants. Something new about this year s conference, we decided to include students from surrounding high schools. Thank you so much to the WestStar alum that helped us in recruiting some wonderful high school kids. Award Winners
