FUEL EDUCATION RESOURCE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION INCENTIVE GRANT (CTEIG) Minimum Eligibility Requirements
The California Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) program has been established for the purpose of helping students in kindergarten through 12th grade develop the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in college and careers. The goal for grant recipients is to enhance, expand, and/or create strong CTE programs that not only match California s 10 program requirements, but that can also be sustained into the future utilizing locally controlled funding after the grant period has expired. Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways can help you meet California s 10 program requirements needed to apply for the CTEIG. Listed below are the state s 10 requirements with information on how Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways can help fulfill an action plan to achieve each requirement. REQUIREMENT #1 Quality Curriculum and Instruction Q. Does the applicant provide a coherent sequence of CTE courses that enable pupils to transition to postsecondary education programs that lead to a career pathway or attain employment upon graduation from high school? The Career Readiness Pathways catalog contains 15+ pathways that align well to California CTE Model Standards.* Each pathway has a recommended course progression designed to prepare students for their next step on their career path and/or program of study. See below for an example pathway. Agriscience CALPADS CODE 102 Introduction to Agriscience Agriscience II Biology Food Production I Food Production II
REQUIREMENT #2 Career Exploration Q. Does the applicant provide pupils with quality career exploration and guidance? Fuel Education provides a variety of services to support the Career Readiness Pathways catalog. One of these services is career exploration, a separate platform that provides students with helpful information to help them identify the right career field and postsecondary options. The career exploration platform includes: Content that is available in English and Spanish Assessments to help students identify work interests, skills, learning preferences, and abilities Information about occupations related to specific industries, including exploring military careers Comprehensive college and vocational school information to help plan education and training Detailed information about thousands of financial aid programs Scholarship availability information based on a variety of criteria Advice for job searching, writing cover letters and resumes, and preparing for job interviews REQUIREMENT #3 Student Support Q. Does the applicant provide pupil support services, including counseling and leadership development? In addition to Fuel Education s career exploration platform that provides a wide variety of support and information, Fuel Education also provides referral and access to Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) through SkillsUSA. These CTSOs help students build leadership and teamwork skills, and extend teaching and learning through innovative programs, business and community partnerships, and leadership experiences at the school, state, and national levels. REQUIREMENT #4 System Alignment Q. Does the applicant provide for system alignment, coherence, and articulation, including ongoing and structural regional or local partnerships with postsecondary education institutions, documented through formal written agreements? Fuel Education s expansive A G approved course listing can help support your institution as students move toward postsecondary education. In addition, our pathways include recommended core courses designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need if they are planning to go to college. Your institution should be prepared to partner with a local postsecondary institution to provide early college programs (such as dual credit or concurrent enrollment) to its students. Fuel Education will support you with any course review processes that may be required to secure a postsecondary partnership.
REQUIREMENT #5 Industry Partnerships Q. Does the applicant have ongoing and structural industry and labor partnerships, documented through formal written agreements and through participation on advisory committees? Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways prepare students with the skills necessary to achieve credentials in many in-demand labor areas. In addition, your institution should be prepared to establish a CTE Advisory Committee, comprised of leaders from local industry and workforce policy. You should leverage the committee to seek formal partnerships with local companies and workforce development groups to provide your students with access to internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities. Fuel Education can support you by demonstrating to potential partners the quality curricular programs that will be made available to students. REQUIREMENT #6 After-School/ Extended-Day Opportunitites Q. Does the applicant provide opportunities for pupils to participate in after-school, extended-day, and out-of-school internships, competitions, and other work-based learning opportunities? Fuel Education s partnership with SkillsUSA can provide your students with after-school or extended-day opportunities that include competitions that help them develop leadership and teamwork skills. Students also have access to the SkillsUSA Work Force Ready System, a comprehensive tool designed to help them document entry-level skills as defined by industry and accepted by state education policy. REQUIREMENT #7 Regional and Local Market Demands Q. Does the applicant s pathway(s) reflect regional or local labor market demands and focus on current or emerging high-skill, high-wage, or high-demand occupations? Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways include course progressions that are well-aligned to the California CTE Model Standards,* and are designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills they need to progress in their chosen field. Our broad list of pathway courses and career electives provide the flexibility districts need to meet the demands of their local labor market. REQUIREMENT #8 Industry Certification/ Employment Q. Does the applicant s pathway(s) lead to an industry-recognized credential, certificate, appropriate postsecondary training, or employment? Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways for California features 15 state-specific pathways that are well-aligned to California CTE Model Standards.* We also offer more than 100 additional CTE courses, including many that help students prepare for industry-recognized certification exams.
REQUIREMENT #9 Skilled Faculty Q. Is the applicant s pathway(s) staffed by skilled teachers or faculty and provides professional development opportunities for those teachers and faculty? Fuel Education has California CTE Certified instructors for all pathway courses in the Career Readiness Pathways catalog. We provide our teachers with ongoing professional development to ensure alignment to California s CTE Model Standards* for the CTE courses they teach. REQUIREMENT #10 Data and Evaluation Q Does the applicant report data, as a program participation requirement, to allow for an evaluation of the program and does the applicant have plans in place to meet the data reporting requirements outlined as part of this grant criteria? Fuel Education supports institutional data reporting systems and requirements through our innovative PEAK learning management system and recommended credentials. REQUIREMENT #11 Promotes CTE Programs *Optional, will NOT be scored Q. Does the applicant promote the CTE programs through outreach, marketing, and communications? Fuel Education s Career Readiness Pathways catalog, along with our supporting services, help students move toward stacked credentials for employment as well as rigorous coursework to prepare for postsecondary education. We are confident these recommended pathways, flexible course options, CA CTE Certified instructors, and wraparound services will help your educational institution affordably expand access, encourage participation in your CTE program, and provide a strong foundation of knowledge and skills as students graduate from high school and work toward their career goals. *For more information about California CTE Model Standards, see cde.ca.gov/ci/ct/sf/ctemcstandards.asp.
