26 Skills attained through participation in Career and Technical Education New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) are infused throughout the curriculum to provide quality education not only in technical (CTE) skills but in employability (CRP) skills and through reinforcement of academic (ELA, Math) skills.
27 CTE Program Course Sequence Overview A quality CTE program will include academic and CTE content in a coordinated, non-duplicative progression of courses Coherent sequence of not fewer than three identifiable CTE courses or two identifiable CTE courses for a shared-time program at a county vocational-technical school district A course that is required of every student enrolled in the district/agency such as introduction to careers, computer literacy, financial literacy and keyboarding is not acceptable for inclusion in the CTE course sequence

Elective Courses CTE Program: Sequence of 3 or more courses that build upon each other Exposure in the career pathway through internships, job shadowing, work experiences and etc. Experience, connections, contacts, mentors, and possible references from the field they want to enter Preparing a student for a high skill, high wage, high demand career Industry credentials and/or college credit CTE Teachers working with an advisory committee to stay current on business and collegiate trends Elective: One or two classes Sometimes no sequence of courses May not have a direct tie to workforce
29 CTE Program of Study (POS) A program of study is a comprehensive, structured approach for delivering academic and career and technical education to prepare students for postsecondary education and career success. - U.S. Department of Education Operational Definition
30 CTE Program or Program of Study CTE Program: Prepares students for entry-level employment in specific occupation, and is aligned with business/industry standards; Coherent sequence of 3 or more courses; May lead to an industry-recognized credential/certificate at the secondary level; Incorporates opportunities to participate in structured learning experiences and career and technical student organizations (CTSO), Incorporates applied contextual cross curricular and interdisciplinary instructional strategies into the curricular. CTE Program of Study: All of the program elements and adding the following: Incorporates and aligns secondary and postsecondary education elements such as curricula, standards and assessment; Provides students with opportunities to earn college credit for college courses successfully completed during high school; Includes and articulation agreement or memorandum of understanding.

37 CTE Program/POS Application SLE Description Provide the description of each type of SLE you will be implementing during your CTE program/program of study in the SLE section of the online program reapproval application. Each SLE description must: 1. Be listed under the appropriate type of SLE (Job Shadowing, Cooperative Education Experience, Volunteer, Apprenticeship, Internship (Paid or Unpaid), or School-based Enterprise) 2. Include the place the student will be attending the SLE (local business, school store located in the school, restaurant, etc.) 3. Include the length of time the student will be attending the SLE (example: 3 days, 1 week, 1 day per week for 10 weeks, etc.) 4. Include the brief description of the tasks and duties the student will be expected to perform for every SLE included in this section
