5 Background The Inspiration Agenda Links between careers guidance and local employment opportunities weak. Too few schools used partnerships with employers, local enterprise partnerships and other organisations to ensure that the career guidance given to students was in line with the broad range of career pathways available locally and nationally. 6 Government recommendations Employers and employer networks should: Work with the National Careers Service to facilitate links between employers, including small and medium sized employers, and all local schools by providing young people with greater direct exposure to the world of work and the full range of career pathways The National Careers Service should also play an important role in linking employers, schools, colleges, socialenterprises andothers others, andinenablingyoung people to do independent research to inform their own decisions.
7 The Inspiration Agenda and the National Careers Service Involves: Young people inschools and colleges Unemployed adults in the community Individuals in custody or ex offenders The aim is to broker relationships between schools and colleges, local communities and employers to bring the world of work alive and provide benefits from first hand experiences of work and opportunities free.
8 Inspiration Agenda activities Set out in the Partnership pstrategy egyand Implementation pe e Plan: Set up a London Area Advisory Group Develop and promote an employer offer menu for young people in schools and colleges, adults in the community ex offenders and those leaving custody Develop and share existing inspiring organisations with schools and colleges Broker motivational and inspirational activities between schools and colleges in partnership with employers Support careers professional careers forums, LMI training and bulletins
9 Inspiration Agenda Support and input into jobs fairs and encourage employers to include hands on inspiring activities on stands Deliver inspiration activities in the community and in custody Develop links with recruitment agencies specialists for priority groups Support and market London Skills events Evaluate the work that has taken place to evidence what works Institute of Education
