1 Advisory Board Chair Job Description Title: Advisory Board Business Chair Serve as the team leader of the advisory board. Preside at Advisory Board meetings. Advocate for the interests of the Advisory Board with SPPS staff. Provide strategic focus and leadership to the group relative to the interests of Career and Technical Education (CTE) represented by the Advisory Board. Identify, articulate and prioritize the issues, topics and challenges affecting education, business partnerships and industry. Share experiences, expertise and contacts. Serve as an advocate for the Career and Technical Education. Act as a liaison to the schools and community in regard to CTE. Lead three advisory board meetings per year, typically held in August, February and May. Meet regularly with the SPPS Teacher chair. Establish a network: Experience valuable networking opportunities across St. Paul businesses, industries and education systems. conversations with fellow professionals and teachers, determine best practices for reaching students with valuable career information. Help your fellow Advisory Board members identify and articulate trends that will shape the profession and thus the education of interested agendas to utilize your expertise. business leadership skills in a supportive, non-work environment.

3 Career and Technical Education Advisory Board Member - Job Description Title: Advisory Board Business and Industry Member Identify, articulate and prioritize the issues, topics and challenges affecting entrance into the career area or profession. Identify best in class developments and the potential impact on the profession. Share experiences, expertise and contacts related to the curriculum. Assist in developing and/or providing experiential learning opportunities for staff and students (I.e., job shadows, field trips, professional learning, etc.). Represent the interests of your profession and be an advocate for Career and Technical Education (CTE). Attend three advisory board meetings per year. Meetings are typically held in August, January and May. Participate in one or more committee planning meetings in autumn to develop activities for February CTE month. Work with your peers: Experience valuable networking opportunities with your peers in the profession. conversations with fellow board members, determine best practices for reaching students with valuable career information. Help members identify and articulate trends that will shape the profession and/or career area and thus the education of interested agendas to utilize your expertise in the profession. leadership skills in a supportive, non-work environment.
4 CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) ADVISORY BOARD STRUCTURE IN SAINT PAUL PUBLIC SCHOOLS CTE Advisory Board Mission: The Career and Technical Education Advisory Board serves to create awareness of and opportunities for St. Paul Public Schools students to gain real world skills needed for 21st Century careers. The partnership of educators, business, industry and community inspires students through applied curriculum, career exploration, and diverse industry learning experiences creating pathways to higher education and economic security. The Board meets three times a year--late August or early September when the teachers return to school so that all may participate, then in early February and early May. At the latter two meetings all business/ industry partners are present, but only one instructor as teacher representative for each of the 11 Advisory Areas: Academy of Finance, Academy of Information Technology, Agriculture, Automotive, Aviation, Communication, Construction, Family and Consumer Science, Medical Careers, Project Lead the Way (pre-engineering) and Work-Based Learning. (Meeting times for Feb/May are 7:45 networking, 8-9:30AM meeting; August meeting is for 2.5 hours the times of which vary dependent on meeting location. The August meeting is broken down to several Committees meeting together as a smaller group is more conducive). Each Committee then decides on at least one other time they meet as a Committee so that all teachers alone with business/industry partners might meet together. Committees choose date, time, and location for their meetings. February is National Career and Technical Education month. We like to highlight all the great work CTE does throughout the year, but more focus is drawn to this month in particular. Some Committees chose to do a big "WOW" event to really make their area stand out during this month.
