1 Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance Policy Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance Policy Introduction Montsaye Academy is an co-educational comprehensive academy with Language, Humanities and Vocational status. It is situated in the market town of Rothwell and serves Rothwell and Desborough and the surrounding area. This policy reflects the importance the academy places on student s personal development and progression. Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) will form part of the PSHE education provision covering Economic Wellbeing and Financial Capability. This policy is linked in with other academy policies teaching and learning, equal opportunities, staff development; the work related learning policy, PSHE, assessment and recording, special educational needs. The academy currently holds the East Midlands Quality Award Career Mark and is committed to maintaining this. Rationale A young person s career is the progress they make in learning and work. All young people need a planned programme of activities to help them choose pathways that are right for them and to be able to manage their careers, learning and sustain employability throughout their lives. The academy has a statutory duty to secure access to impartial and independent information, advice and guidance on the options available to students in Years 9-11 (Statutory Guidance: The Education Act 2011 The Duty to Secure Independent and Impartial Careers Guidance for Young People in Schools April 2012). Commitment Montsaye is committed to providing a high quality, planned programme of careers education and information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for all students in Years 8-11, in partnership with the local IAG providers, previously this was Connexions. Montsaye is committed to the Raising of the Participation Age (RPA) and will ensure all young people can access the full range of options and integrated support. Montsaye follows the National Framework for CEG in England (DfE, 2012) put into place after the withdrawal of the national Connexions duty from local authorities and its associated funding. Once the Government has consulted about the Year 8 and Post-16 arrangements, any changing guidance will be reviewed and implemented once it becomes available. Ratified by Governor s July
