1 Friends of CRLS Student Travel Fellowships Overview Please read this Overview carefully before beginning your application! What is a Friends of CRLS Student Travel Fellowship? A Friends of CRLS Student Travel Fellowship is funding awarded by Friends of CRLS (FOCRLS) to motivated, academically strong students from low-income families needing financial assistance to be able to participate in school-authorized trips. Friends of CRLS Travel Fellows have visited New York City, Peru, Cuba, Panama, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, the Island School in the Bahamas, the Galapagos Islands, Tanzania, Turkey, England, Italy, Spain, and France. What should you know about applying? Before you apply for a Student Travel Fellowship, you will need to sign up for your trip and pay the required deposit. Applications and supporting documents need to be completed and submitted by to info@focrls.org by the deadline specified below; please be sure to use Student Travel Fellowship as the subject line. Our funds are limited. Funding takes mutual effort. This year FOCRLS will fund up to 75% of trip costs for a small number of students who, along with meeting other criteria, demonstrate serious financial constraints. Please note, however that you should request the minimum amount you need in order to participate. Students and their families are required to commit to raising the remaining funds to cover the cost of the trip. We want to avoid disappointment and stress on applicants, families, and trip leaders scrambling at the last minute to meet deadlines and raise funds. Complete your paperwork promptly and completely! Only complete, on-time applications will be considered. You must provide the following: contact information for you and your parent(s)/guardian(s), trip information, essay question responses, and financial information, including each parent/guardian s tax forms. You are also responsible for arranging for two completed recommendation forms: one from the teacher or staff member leading the trip and one from another CRLS faculty member, a work supervisor, or another adult, not related to you, who knows you well. Additional requirements are a GPA of B or above and current enrollment in the free/reduced lunch program.
