1 Presented by : Sreenath Rao Samudrala Project Steward, Asha Toledo Arogyeseva Arogyaseva Project was started in 2006 by Asha Toledo Location Naupada Thane, Thane District Maharashtra, India Number of Children Benefited: 1000 Aim of this project is to: Provide basic education and health awareness for students in rural and tribal areas Conduct Medical camps for children and their parents Develop infrastructure for the schools Recruit more teachers to cater the student needs Train local youth on first aid medical treatment Conduct leadership and personality development programs
2 Project Background Arogyaseva focuses on illiterate tribal people living below poverty line in Thane District Majority of paadas have no electricity and fresh drinking water. Nachni is the major crop grown by the farmers which lasts from November to March. Villagers are unaware of different crops that can be grown in the area which can improve their condition. Villagers are left with no food in major part of the year leading to starvation and malnutrition of children. Project Background Contd Condition of Child Education Only some paadas (Hamlets) have schools. They lack infrastructure and healthy environment. Illness among children, lack of teachers lead them to leave school and help their parents in farming. Role of Asha Toledo Asha Toledo along with Dr. Sujit Nilegaonkar aim to provide basic education to the children and impart basic health awareness to young people.

4 Phase-Ι Completed Money Disbursed: $1500 Result: 1. Students were supplied with books & toys 2. Furniture like tables, black boards, mats and books were supplied to school 3. Two solar lamps were installed (People saw electricity for the first time in that place!) Phase-I School at Karoli Paada. Tables, mattress, chairs, and books provided by Asha Toledo.

Medical camp was done for 700 people and required medicines were provided to the villagers. c. Private teaching sessions arranged for 8 th, 9 th, and 10 th grade students.

8 Phase-ΙΙΙ Money Disbursed - Work In Progress Money Disbursed $15,800 Jaipur foot for two handicapped students Library in Mokhada and Beriste paadas Warli Painting course for 50 students Vocational training course for handicapped students; This training will include making Incense stick, Candles, Folding cloth chairs. Number of beneficiaries 25 Agricultural guidance for farmers Two solar lamps will be installed in students who are coming to school and street lamps will be installed in the villages Supplying basic infrastructure to schools (like stationary, other teaching aids, maps, playing instruments etc.) Tuition for 1 to 4th standard students in 5 schools Phase-III In Progress Phase -3 Project is in progress and we will submit Full report in first week of May. Purpose Renovation of Pragati Hostel at Mokhada Palnaghar Program (for five palnaghar) Bicycle Bank Program Annual or One time Investment One time Investment Money In Indian Rupees Money In US Rs. 3,30,000/- $ 7,024 Annual Rs. 4,80,000/- $ 10,213 One time Investment Rs. 1,20,000/- $ 2,553 Rs. 9,30,000/- $ 19,790
10 Detail Budget Information Renovation of Pragati hostel at Mokhada cost 3,30,000/-( one time investment, approximation number) We will renovate whole building so that it can be used for atleast 10 to 15 years without any major renovations. Detailed estimation for building will be provided in few days. Total number of residential students = 30 (every year this number is increasing). These Students are studying (8th to 10th std) in Karmir Bhaurao Patil High School at Mokhada. Grant of Rs.500/- per student per month is sanctioned from Z.P.Thane (Welfare Department) which is not sufficient actual expenses are more. Yearly Rs.50,000 to 60,000/- is deficit of hostel expenses. Hostel building was constructed in 1979, hence we are planning to renovate it if funds are available from the donar. No capital grant is sanction by Govt. Nutrition project for Anganwadi in far flung areas: Palnaghar Program (for five palnaghar (anganvadi's)) No of Kids in Each Anganvadi : Rs per kid * 26 (approx. kids)* 365 (days) *5 (palnaghar) = 4,74,500 (we are requesting 4,80,000 including contingency plan) Detail Budget Information Bicycle bank: It s a new concept. We are planning to buy few cycles and allot to students who have to commute 10 Km daily to reach the school. Students of 7-10 th class will be given preference. The bicycle costs Rs 2,725/-. The cycles will be deposited to the school authority at the time of vacation to avoid misuse and will be issued to students once the schools start again. After a particular student completes his education and goes ahead for further education, the bicycle will be allotted to another student. A small tool kit will be provided per school for maintenance purpose. The responsibility of the bicycles will be given to school authority. Inspection of the bicycles will be done once in three months by our representative. Planning to buy 40 more bicycles. Cost Rs. 1, 09,000/- for hundred bicycles. 12 Appreciation from Government and Press Government of Maharashtra sanctioned Rs 700,000 for the construction of the school building at Kumbhi village. The Collector of Thane district financially supported the drilling of bore wells in these hilly areas. The Loksatha newspaper printed an article on the success of the project as a great achievement in the tribal areas.
