1 3 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets GLIDING COURSE JOINING INSTRUCTIONS Course Location: Bathurst Detachment Contact: or Movements Officer: BEFORE YOU GO TO COURSE 1. Allergies & Special Meal Requirements You must immediately notify your CO and HQ 3WG of any allergies or special meal requirements, such as being a vegetarian. This information should have been completed on page 2 of the Gliding Course Application Form You must organise for written advice to be provided by your Parent/Guardian with respect to any allergies or special meal requirements, if not already done so within the Gliding Course Application Form If you have an allergy, as well as the information you may have provided within the Gliding Course Application Form a written allergy management plan is also required and is to be prepared in consultation with your Parent/Guardian and if required your GP is to be provided to the Course First Aid Officer upon arrival at the course (and prior to any meals). 2. Personal Health Any doubts about your personal health should be discussed with your CO before Course. Cadets under strong medication should not attend Course. 3. Special Needs Any special needs must be approved by your CO and notified to 327FLT immediately. Any special travel arrangements, such as being picked up at the end of Course, must be approved by your CO and notified to 327FLT immediately by ing ci.327flt@aafc.org.au and admino.327flt@aafc.org.au 4. TR66 Parental Consent Form Fully complete a Parental Consent Form and have your parent/guardian sign the form ready to be taken on Course. Make sure you include your Medicare Number on the form and make a note of any allergies, medical conditions or treatment you will require during Course. 327FLT understand that cadets would have submitted a TR66 with their original application, however it imperative that all cadets attending complete another with parent/guardian so that the cadet has this document in possession whilst travelling to the course. The Parental Consent Form is available for download from the 3WG Download Centre at the following link: 5. Uniform Make sure you have a complete set of uniform items and that your uniform is properly fitting. Name tags and the AAFC flash must be properly fitted to your DPCU s and those with flying suits are to ensure that they have all embellishments i.e. AAFC Crest or be prepared to purchase such items on course.
2 Make sure your haircut meets AAFC standards. If your haircut does not meet AAFC standards you will be given an option to attend a hairdresser locally at your expense to ensure the standard is complied with. 6. Harassment, Fraternisation & Unnacceptable Sexual Behaviour The Australian Defence Force is committed to zero tolerance policies with respect to unacceptable behaviour and sexual harassment. This includes the AAFC. All members are reminded of their responsibility in ensuring an environment free from such actions and behaviour. The ADFC and AAFC has documented its policies which are contained in the ADFC Behaviour Policy and the AAFC Policy Manual. You are required to have read and be familiar with the policies and to be committed to them. If you are not sure then ask any senior Cadet or Staff member for a copy or where to get access. GENERAL INFORMATION 7. Medical If you are forced to seek medical attention other than from Defence medical staff, you will be required to pay for any consultation if bulk billing is not available. Any ongoing medication and/or treatment must be advised to the Detachment Commander on arrival. Ensure your Parental Consent Form is completed correctly and fully. 8. Identification PH299 Blue Book You must carry your PH299 Blue Book with you at all times when travelling to and from Course and whilst on Course. Cadets are to ensure their PH299 is up to date before attending with current photo in place. 9. Travel to and from Course Your travel to and from Course will be organised by 327FLT MOVO A Movements Schedule will be forwarded to you and your CO via . Sydney metro Cadets are required to make their own way to the designated Central Station pick up location, however timings, locations and details will be forwarded to these cadets also via 327FLT MOVO. All personnel are to wear Service Dress to and from Course. If you run into transport problems after leaving your hometown departure point you should first attempt to contact the 327FLT MOVO Failing that you should the course on Accommodation and Bedding Accommodation will be at the Bathurst Sheep and Cattle Drome, and bedding will be provided. You will be housed in shared, dormitory-style accommodation, with shared shower and toilet facilities. Male Cadets, Female Cadets and Staff will be accommodated in separate areas. Limited laundry facilities will be available. 11. Photography Photography or filming is generally at the aerodrome, however conditions apply. Flying staff will brief Cadets upon arrival at the Field. Photography is not permitted within barracks / sleeping areas. 14. Hazardous Items Any articles detected and considered to be a hazard to the safety and conduct of Cadets on Detachment will be immediately impounded, including pocket knives. If in doubt, consult your CO. The RAAF & AAFC does not accept responsibility for the care and protection of valuable and attractive personal items such as ipods, mobile phones or cameras. In addition to this, Cadets are not permitted to use / carry such items during duty periods (IE at the aerodrome). You are advised not to take valuables on Course.
3 WHAT YOU NEED TO TAKE ON COURSE All Cadets attending Course are to pack the items listed on the checklist in one piece of luggage plus one suit bag if required. It is recommended that each item of clothing is clearly marked with your name and/or service number. 15. Cold Weather The weather at Bathurst can be very cold. Cadets should pack accordingly, warm weather jackets are provided for the airfield 16. Hats A hat with a brim is required for sun protection. Baseball style caps are NOT ACCEPTABLE on the field because they give no sun protection to the ears and neck. Issued DPCU Boonie or Giggle style hats are recommended. 17. Footwear For flying, a pair of sneakers or sand shoes is satisfactory. GP Boots are not suitable for use in a glider but need to be worn at all other times for OH&S reasons. Each cadet should bring a pair of thongs for the showers and if need be slippers for use during stand down periods within barracks. 18. Gliding Log Book. Cadets are to bring their gliding logbooks. Cadets will be issued with a gliding logbook at no charge on their first gliding course. 19. FAI Certificate Book Cadets who have achieved the A Certificate or a higher award should bring their gliding certificates (green booklet) with them.
4 WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE ON COURSE You must hand in your TR66 Parental Consent Form as soon as possible upon arriving on Course. All allergies and other medical conditions must be brought to the attention of the First Aid Officer immediately upon arrival. Article Qty Checked a.
