This year included many changes as we progressed toward Recognized Status through the Texas Police Chief s Association. One of the major benefits to the Recognition Program is the increased credibility of the agency and its officers in the eyes of the public, other law enforcement agencies, and the criminal justice system as a whole. To accomplish this, the Department must meet over 166 Best Practices standards. Every aspect of our policies and procedures, building security and all facets of our operations are reviewed and inspected to make sure they meet the standards outlined in the Best Practices program. The response from the public has been better than anticipated. Postings have included public assistance requests, crimes of the week, crime alerts, department happenings, events around town and more. Rex is a Belgian malinois and was 2 years old when we got him. He took over K-9 duties from Ceiko who retired after 8 years with the Department. Before becoming an official K-9 for the Department, Rex was required to successfully complete the K-9 certification trials. In 2013 the trials were held in Texarkana, TX.
