Kreckel NCOA Basic Leader Course (BLC) 1. Congratulations on your selection to attend the Basic Leader Course (BLC) at the SSG John W. Kreckel Noncommissioned Officer Academy (NCOA). The BLC is a 22-day Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development (NCOPD) course focusing on understanding leadership of the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) by utilizing the 3 lines of effort found in NCO 2020 Strategy (Development, Talent Management, and Stewardship of the Profession) and the Six Leader Core Competencies (Readiness, Leadership, Training Management, Communications, Operations, and Program Management). Our efforts are not a one-time occurrence but will further assist in preparing you for your transition to become a NCO and your U.S. Army journey. 2. The mission of the SSG John W. Kreckel NCOA is to develop agile and adaptive Noncommissioned Officers and Soldiers through Professional Military Education opportunities that meet the challenges of full spectrum operations in an era of persistent conflict. 3. You are to report in seasonal Army Physical Fitness Uniform (APFU) to the NCOA, Building 7523 NLT Students are encouraged to park in the parking lot found within the fenced in area of the NCOA Campus. Students need to reframe from parking in the areas indicated by the word Cadre on the ground in white lettering. Reference appendix A for a candidate parking Map. 4. All BLC candidates will wait on and around the basketball court staying off the grass until called upon by BLC Senior Cadre. We ask that personnel do not congest the roadway around the NCOA Campus to ensure proper freedom of maneuver. At approximately 0658 a Senior Noncommissioned Officer will announce all BLC candidates need to form up in the designated marshaling area found in appendix B. It is imperative that all candidates have on them the required in items in paragraph 10 of this welcome letter. Upon initial in-processing you will be required to complete a DA Form 705 and a DA Form 5500/5501 to be processed through an Army Body Composition Program screening. As a BLC Candidate be aware that attention to detail is crucial throughout this course from the time you step on the NCOA Campus, so if you are confused then ask questions. 5. BLC candidates will benefit greatly from registering for the Academy s ACT page. You will find all advance course information to help you become successful in BLC on the 101 ST NCOA ACT community page.

2 6. Registration instructions can be found in the following document (double click to open): 7. As this course is writing intensive, it is strongly encouraged to take the NCO Writing Course. This can be found by searching NCO Writing Course in ALMS All BLC Candidates need to become extremely familiar with basic Drill & Ceremony and Physical Readiness Training (PRT) prior to arrival to enable successful assessments early on in the course. Furthermore, you will find the course syllabus on the Academy ACT page to help you prepare for the course. 9. The packing list can be found at: Packing%20List%20as%20of%2030%20July%202018%20V7.pdf 10. Minimum items required upon your arrival: a. CAC (ID) with electronic meal card information imbedded. b. Three copies of Military orders (DD Form 1610) (TDY only). c. APFU complete with yellow reflective belt (no unit shirts or spandex) and Army Combat Uniform (OCP/UCP). Packing list not needed on Day 1, but will be required on Day 2 and inspected throughout the course. d. Completed TASS Pre-execution checklist found on the Fort Campbell academy website, (TF R-E, April 2018). e. Copy of physical profiles, (if required). 11. Additional Information for future success: a. BLC classroom instruction is scheduled to take place 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday. b. All students will need to pass 6 Grade Point Average (GPA) and 6 Non-GPA assessments.

Distinguished Leadership Award iii. Iron Sergeants Award (Male and Female) iv. Commandant s List (Top 20% of Class) d. TDY Soldiers: Dining Facilities are available 7 days a week. Make plans to arrive early to become familiar with Fort Campbell and the NCOA location. If you are flying, the closest airport is Nashville International Airport (BNA). 12.
