1 585 Rideau Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron Senior Parade Appointment Guide For Air Cadets serving in 585 Rideau Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. This Guide will assist you in understanding the cadet parade appointments, and how this unit operates. This leadership responsibilities and drill standards can be confusing and a bit intimidating, so it is the hope of the Commanding Officer to reduce that anxiety through this document.

3 Chain of Command The parade appointments for the training year include the following: Squadron Warrant Officer Alpha and Bravo Flight Sergeant Recruit Flight Sergeant Alpha and Bravo Flight 2 i/c Duty Sergeant Senior Flag Party Sergeant Squadron Warrant Officer Duty Sergeant Alpha Flight Sergeant Senior Flag Party Sergeant Bravo Flight Sergeant Alpha Flight 2 i/c Bravo Flight 2 i/c Each appointment is included in a separate booklet with the next highest appointment included for each cadet to become aware of what the next appointment must accomplish and know to move up the chain-of-command. Each booklet includes the Terms of Reference (TOR), duties and drill outline including the Duty Sergeant attendance commands.

4 Junior Parade Appointments Flight 2 i/c RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: PREREQUISITES: Reports to Flight Sergeant The Flt 2 i/c is responsible for the dress and development of flight recruits as well as support for the Flt Sgt. Junior NCM usually a Sgt or FCpl Primary Duties: 1. Conduct attendance weekly by: a. Forming flight up, b. Take attendance, c. Reporting the flight numbers to the Duty Sergeant, d. Reporting the flight numbers to the Flight Sergeant, e. Assisting the Flight Sergeant with flight inspections, and f. Assisting the Flight Sergeant with drill practices. 2. Introduce and direct new recruits to Flt Sgt and assist recruits through the enrolment process. 3. Assist the Flt Sgt with flight duties as assigned. 4. Be available to participate as Duty Sgt. 5. Resume duties of Flt Sgt in his absence during a regular training night. 6. Other Duties as assigned. Parade Position 2i/c Fall-in Drill Procedure Move to flight fall-in position just ahead of back wall, Call Alpha / Bravo Flight Marker, Marker will move into parade position, Flt 2 i/c will move to parade position,

5 Alpha / Bravo flight, Fall in, Cadets will fall into flight formation at attention, Alpha / Bravo Flight, Stand at Ease, Flt 2 i/c will about turn and stand at ease, Once attendance is completed and Duty Sgt has left the parade square, about turn to face the flight and if announced previous week that an inspection will be held Alpha / Bravo Flight, Atten tion. Open Order March, Dress flight Alpha / Bravo Flight, Right...dress, Once cadets adjust dressing, Eyes front. Stand At ease. About turn and stand at ease, and When Flt Sgt moves toward flight, come to attention; Alpha / Bravo Flight, Atten tion Attendance Procedure When Duty Sgt moves to parade position: Duty Sgt will call out Flt 2 i/c s who will march out and form up in front of Duty Sgt, Attendance boards will be handed to Flt 2 i/c s, and To your duties, fall...out. Step back, turn right and march back to flight parade positon, Alpha / Bravo Flight, Atten tion, Call attendance Alpha / Bravo Flight, answer to your name, stand at Ease, Attendance will be conducted by cadets coming to attention and responding Flight / Sgt / FCpl or Sir whichever the highest rank present on the floor. Cadet will return to At Ease position, When finished taking attendance, Is there any name not called?, Alpha / Bravo Flight, Atten tion, Know the number of cadets present in the flight Flight number, Alpha / Bravo Flight, Stand at Ease, About turn and stand At Ease, wait for Duty Sgt to call you back to front.

6 Duty Appointments Duty NCMs will provide support for the squadron to ensure information is available to all cadets and a weekly canteen is manned. Orderly Corporal TITLE OF POSITION: SQUADRON ORDERLY CORPORAL ABBREVIATED TITLE: Orderly Cpl RESPONSIBLE TO: Sqn Duty Sgt STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Duty Corporal is responsible for duties as assigned by the Duty Sgt to ensure the cleanliness of all Sqn facilities. Primary Duty Cpl Duties 1. Coordinate the disposal of garbage and recyclable materials. 2. Assist the Duty Sgt with the setup of break times. 3. Maintain clean floor spaces. 4. Complete duties shown on the Duty Corporal Schedule for Regular LHQ Training Sessions listing. These items are to be completed for all regular LHQ training sessions. 5. Complete other duties as assigned by the Duty Officer, Duty Sgt or any of the other Officers/staff within the Sqn. Duty Corporal Schedule for Regular LHQ Training Sessions Overview: The following is a list of duties that are the responsibility of the Duty Corporal for completion on each and every Regular LHQ Training Session. These duties are to be completed by the time shown. Duties are as followed: Time Task 18:15-18:25 Arrive to Squadron 18:25 Report to the Duty Sgt to receive duty badge and duties for the evening. 18:45-19:15 1 st Class 19:15 End classes 19:20 2 nd Class 1915 Depart from class to report to Duty Sgt to prepare canteen 19:50 End classes 19:50 20:05 Break with Duty Sgt 20:05 Close and clean up canteen 20:05 3 rd Class starts (make sure that everyone is going to class). 20:10 Return to class 20:35 End classes Collect and handout any papers to Flight Sgts from office. 20:40 Closing parade 21:00 Report with Duty Sgt to hand in badges and be dismissed. * Extra Duties: Make sure that all the coats are off the floor. At break go up to the office and get the canteen ready to go. During evening report to the office and ask if the garbage need to be changed Check the bathrooms, classroom and ensure all tables and chairs are returned to cupboard and then report to DWO to hand back brassard and discus how the night went.

7 Duty Sergeant Parade Position TITLE OF POSITION: ABBREVIATED TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: SQUADRON DUTY SERGEANT Duty Sgt Squadron Duty Officer / SWO The Duty Sergeant is responsible for duties as assigned by the Sqn Duty O and SWO to ensure the orderly operation of Break. Primary Duties 1. Assist the Orderly Corporals with operation of designated break times. 2. Complete duties shown on the Duty Sgt Schedule for Regular LHQ Training Sessions listing. These items are to be completed for all regular LHQ training sessions. 3. Complete other duties as assigned by the SWO, DCO or any Officers / staff within the Sqn. Duty Sgt Schedule for Regular LHQ Training Sessions Overview: The following is a list of duties that are the responsibility of the Duty Sgt for completion on each Regular LHQ Training Session. This list is meant to be a detailed listing of the duties required in item 2 of the Duty Sgt Primary Duties statement. These duties are to be completed by the time shown. 18:20 Receive Duty Sgt badge from the Admin O. 18:25 Collect Attendance Sheets and participate in evening attendance process. 18:25 When attendance is done, remain at doorway during opening parade and mark in any cadets arriving late. 18:40 Go to the office and ask if there is anything that is needed if not report to SWO and then return to 1 st class. 18:45 to 19:15 Attend first period class 19:20 to 19:40 Attend second period class.

8 19:40 Report to the SWO that you are now starting your duties as Duty Sgt. Go to Admin and prepare for break. 19:50 to 20:05 Conduct break working with Orderly Cpl. In the break area, maintain security during break, keeping the noise to an acceptable level. Do NOT prevent Cadets from engaging in acceptable social activity. NOTE: Shouting by you or calling Room in the completion of your normal Duty Sgt duties is NOT ACCEPTABLE. If there are disciplinary problems, report them immediately to the Deputy Commanding Officer for resolution. 20:05 5 Clean up break area with Orderly Cpl and return all remaining items to Admin. 20:10 to 20:35 Attend third period class. 20:40 Report to CO that Squadron is forming up for closing. 21:00 Report to SWO with Orderly Cpl for release. Check the bathrooms, classroom and ensure all tables and chairs are returned to cupboard and then report to SWO to hand back badge and discus how the night went. Duty Sergeant Attendance Procedure Duty Sergeant will pick up attendance boards from the office, Once Flt 2 i/c s have formed up flights, Duty Sgt will move to centre position. Call Flt 2 i/c s, When they have fallen-in in front of Duty Sgt hand each cadet the correct attendance board. To your duties, fall out, Observe Flt 2 i/c s as they call the attendance, NO cadet will fall into the flight at this time but will stand off to the side until attendance is completed, Duty Sgt will record the senior cadet attendance, Once Flt 2 i/c s have completed taking the attendance, turned to the front and stood at ease, call Flt 2 i/c s, Flt 2 i/c s will fall-in in front of Duty Sgt and hand back the attendance boards, Flt 2 i/c s will report the number of cadets in each flight, To your duties, fall out, March off the parade square, Record any cadet names who arrived late, Report total number of cadets present to SWO, and Continue to record any cadets arriving late at this point. Evening Duties Monthly duty, Collects attendance boards from office, Presents attendance boards to Flight 2 I/Cs, Records Senior cadet attendance, Records late arrival cadets, Reports Squadron numbers to: Squadron Warrant Officer Administration Officer Training Officer

9 Once cadets are dismissed to class. Delivers attendance sheets to Administration. Report to class unless required completing other duties. Leave class five (5) minutes before end. Give each instructor a five minute notice for end of period (show of hand). Leave 2 nd class 10 minutes and after giving instructors five minute end of period notice, meet Duty Cpls and prepare for canteen. Conduct canteen with Duty Cpls. Secure canteen and return to last class. Leave class five (5) minutes before end. Give each instructor a five minute notice for end of period (show of hand). Report to Administration for any handouts.

10 Senior Parade Appointments Flight Sergeant RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: PREREQUISITES: Reports to Squadron Warrant Officer The Flight Sergeant is responsible for the dress, deportment, conduct and attendance of the cadets placed within the flight. The Flt Sgt is also responsible for the motivation of these cadets to participate in extracurricular activities. Non-commissioned Member usually FSgt or Sgt Primary Duties: 1. Actively recruit new cadets to raise the strength of the flight. 2. Ensure cadets meet dress and deportment standards, coaching those who are having difficulty meeting them. 3. Contact by telephone or , cadets in the flight weekly to ensure their attendance at regular training parades advising them, with at least 24 hours notice of any special activities. 4. Advise Squadron Warrant Officer of any cadet who missed two (2) regular training evening without notification. 5. Report the absence from training of those cadets identified during the telephone or contact who are unable to attend opening parade on a regular training night. 6. Inspect the flight on parade before any regular inspection. 7. Advise the Squadron Warrant Officer of those cadets who are distinguished for proficiency in their duties. 8. Encourage and motivate cadets in the flight to participate in special activities. 9. Advise the Flt 2 i/c of an intended absence so that he may fulfill the Flt Sgt s duties in his absence. 10. Other duties as assigned. Parade position Flt Sgt Flt 2i/c

11 Flag Party Sergeant RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: PREREQUISITES: Report to Squadron Warrant Officer The Flag Party Sergeant (Sgt) is responsible for the assembly, training and preparation of a standard Flag Party. The Flag Party Sgt is also responsible for commanding the Flag Party during parades as well as placing and removing the required flags from the parade area. NCM with outstanding personnel drill and drill instruction ability, usually a Flight Sergeant or Sergeant. Primary Duties: 1. Recruit volunteers from the Air Cadet and NCM cadre to participate in Flag Party training. 2. Be knowledgeable in matters regarding flag party drill and procedures for flag parties. 3. Train cadets and NCMs to be proficient members of a flag party, including flag drill and rifle drill. 4. Develop the appropriate progression of squad members through the various positions with regard to ranks. 5. Be prepared to provide a flag party with up to two flags with supporting escorts. 6. Liaison with the Training Officer to select NCMs for the Flag Party. 7. Liaison with the Training Officer to determine any requirements for additional practice. 8. Liaison with the Supply Officer to obtain any equipment required by the Flag Party. 9. Other duties as assigned. Banner Sr Escort National Jr Escort Jr Escort

12 Squadron Warrant Officer RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: PREREQUISITES: Reports to Commanding Officer The Squadron Warrant Officer is responsible for the discipline and conduct of the cadets as well is responsible for all extra-curricular activities and the NCMs in charge of them. Warrant Officer Class 1, 2 or FSgt preferably with senior camp experience. Primary Duties: 1. Maintain high standards of discipline, dress, drill and conduct among Squadron NCMs. 2. Advice the TrgO, DCO and the CO (as appropriate) on cadet personnel matters. 3. Contact weekly by telephone or , all Sr NCMs and supernumerary NCMs to ensure their attendance at regular training parades as well as advise them, with at least 24 hours notice of any special activities. 4. Report the absence from training those NCMs identified during the contact process, who are unable to attend opening parade for a regular training night. 5. Advise the DCO of cadets having problems with attendance after more than two (2) regular training nights. 6. Conduct weekly inspection of Flt Sgts. 7. Review Flt Sgt records weekly to ensure that they are neat, correct and up to date. 8. Encourage all NCMs to participate in the Squadron special activities. 9. Organize and monitor Squadron formation and attendance during weekly training. 10. Supervise and monitor Duty Sgt and Duty Cpls activity. 11. Interview and counsel NCMs regarding dress, drill, deportment and discipline as required. 12. Supervise and monitor the performance of NCM's in the completion of their duties. 13. Notify the Commanding Officer of any pending absence from training so that the position can be filled by a pre-arranged selection of Flt Sgts. 14. Other duties as assigned. Parade position

13 Duties Meets with: Commanding Officer (evening messages) and Training Officer (training messages), Inspects Flight Sergeants before parade, Monitors Duty Sergeant actions, Monitors Flight Sergeant duties during: flight formation, flight inspection, drill practice Squadron Warrant Officer Drill Falling Squadron In When Flt Sgts about turn, move to squadron fall in position facing squadron. Markers. Flight markers will move to SWO. Markers number : Markers sound off (One, Two, Three Flight or Sir whichever the highest rank present on the floor. Number one right, remainder left turn. Number one stand fast, remainder quick march (markers will march to fall in position dependent on number of cadets per front rank plus paces between flight one and two and two and three. Number one stand fast, remainder About turn. Markers, advance, Left-turn. Move to parade position. Squadron, fall-in. Flight Sgts Alpha / Bravo flight, atten...tion. Flight Sgts Alpha / Bravo flight, quick march. At marker Halt. Squadron, Right dress. Alpha Flt Sgt moves to right marker (space permitted six paces from marker). Remainder Flt Sgts pace off distance between flights then stand fast beside own flight right marker. Alpha Flt Sgt dresses front rank; Front Rank Steady, turn left and pace between front and centre rank; right turn and dress centre rank Centre Rank Steady, turn left and pace between centre and rear rank; right turn and dress rear rank Rear Rank Steady turn right and march to position in line with front rank, Squadron Steady. Eyes front. Flt Sgts return to parade position. Report your Flights Flt Sgts will report number of cadets in the flight on parade. Flight Sgts Alpha / Bravo flight, # (including selft) on parade, Sir / FSgt. Stand at Ease.

14 Use this routine but if inspection being conducted: Squadron, Atten tion. Squadron, open order March. About turn and wait for officer. If officer takes over parade, move to SWO position beside squadron right marker. Closing Formation Flt 2 i/c s form flight calling Marker then Alpha / Bravo Flight, fall-in. Flt Sgt s take over flights. SWO falls in squadron as outlined. SWO falls flag party onto parade when needed. Once officer takes over parade, SWO moves beside squadron right marker until officer calls SWO back.
