6 SECTION 1 CLASS NOTATIONS 1 General 1.1 Introduction All vessels Classed with the Society may be assigned construction symbol main Class tation service area notation ship type notation additional Class tation as applicable Class tations are assigned in order to determine applicable rule requirements for assignment and retention of Class. Applicable Class tations are given in Sec.2 to Sec.5. Part 1 Chapter 2 Section Class tations are either mandatory or optional. The mandatory Class tations are indicated in the tables given in Sec.2 to Sec In accordance with Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.1 [2.3.3] optional Class tations from the Society's other rule sets may, upon special consideration, be assigned to a vessel complying with those rules Class tations may be given one or more qualifiers which are supplementary symbols used to identify variants of the Class tation or a design parameter. Qualifiers include e.g. levels of complexity and/or special requirements or limitations, and may be assigned additional requirements. Qualifiers follow immediately after a Class tation and are indicated in parenthesis. Multiple qualifiers are separated by comma and space. Guidance note: A typical Class tation string may look as: 1A HSLC R2 Passenger E0 ---e-n-d---of---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e Class tations and qualifiers are shown in bold The Tables in Sec.2 to Sec.5 include the following information Name of Class tation Indication of Class tation being mandatory Reference to rule design requirements Reference to rule survey requirements for Fleet in Service (FiS). NA indicates that requirements are covered by Main Class tation (See Pt.7 Ch.1) Qualifiers as relevant. Purpose of Class tation Application, giving information on when and where the Class tation can be applied and/or in what condition a Class tation is mandatory Examples of typical Class tations are shown in Table 1. 8 SECTION 2 CONSTRUCTION SYMBOL AND MAIN CLASS NOTATION 1 Construction symbols 1.1 General The construction symbol will be assigned to vessels built under the supervision of the Society The construction symbol will be assigned to vessels built under the supervision of a classification society recognized by the Society and later assigned Class with the Society. For such vessels the Class tations which the Society considers to have the equivalent intent will be assigned Vessels other than those described in [1.1.1] and [1.1.2] will not be assigned a construction symbol when classed with the Society. 2 Main Class tation Part 1 Chapter 2 Section General The notations 1A HSLC or 1A LC, as applicable, will be assigned to vessels with hull, machinery, systems and equipment found to be in compliance with applicable Rule requirements as given in Pt.2, Pt.3 and Pt The notations 1A HSLC or 1A LC, as applicable, will also be assigned to vessels designed and constructed in accordance with the rules of another classification society, and later assigned Class with the Society. 2.2 Applicability of Rules for High Speed and Light Craft A Light Craft, LC, is defined as a craft with a full load displacement not more than: = (0.13 L B) 1.5 (tonnes) = maximum permissible displacement (tonnes) L = overall length of the underwater watertight envelope of the rigid hull excluding appendages, at or below the design water line in the displacement mode with no lift or propulsion machinery active (m) B = full breadth at L/2 (m). Craft with displacements in excess of the above requirement shall be classified in accordance with additional requirements to strength and watertight integrity as stipulated for each ship type notation. Rules for classification: High speed and light craft DNVGL-RU-HSLC-Pt1Ch2. Edition December 2015 Page 8
9 2.2.2 A High Speed Light Craft, HSLC, is defined as a craft, that in addition to fulfilling [1.2.3], is capable of a maximum speed in knots equal to or exceeding: V = V = the speed (knots) = the displacement corresponding to the design waterline (tonnes). Guidance note: The above criteria is in compliance with the application for the IMO HSC Code. The factor is adjusted only for the alternative units. ---e-n-d---of---g-u-i-d-a-n-c-e---n-o-t-e--- Part 1 Chapter 2 Section 2 Rules for classification: High speed and light craft DNVGL-RU-HSLC-Pt1Ch2. 22 SECTION 5 SERVICE AREA 1 Service area notation 1.1 General The service area notation R followed by a number or a letter will be assigned to all high speed, light craft and naval surface craft. The service area restrictions, given in nautical miles and representing the maximum distance from nearest port or safe anchorage, are given in Table 1. For the various service area notations the restrictions are related to the zones, areas and seasonal periods as defined in the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966, Annex II. The service area notation RE is limited to enclosed waters such as fjords, ports, rivers and lakes. The service area restrictions as related to the assigned service area notation will be included in the Appendix to the Class Certificate. Table 1 Service area restrictions Part 1 Chapter 2 Section 5 Service area notations Seasonal zones (nautical miles) Winter Summer Tropical R0 250 restrictions* restrictions* R R R R R R *) Unrestricted service notation is not applicable for craft falling within the scope of the HSC Code, i.e. ship type notations Passenger, Ferry or Cargo Modified requirements related to the various service area notations are given in the relevant sections of the rules. The modifications will affect: design hull girder loads design pressures on shell, weather decks, superstructures and deckhouses anchoring and mooring equipment arrangement stability The Flag Administration, the domestic requirements of which are being applied under the provision of Pt.1 Ch.1 Sec.2 [1.3.7] (local trade), shall be indicated in parentheses after the service area notation, by using lower-case country codes in accordance with ISO 3166, (e.g. R2 (nor), should the Flag Administration be rway or R2 (usa) should the Flag Administration be U.S.A. etc.) Other service restrictions or operational limits included in the design assumptions for a vessel will be stated in the Appendix to the Class Certificate, and/or on special signboards.
