2 What we do? The Marine Accident Investigation Commission (CIAIM) examines and investigates all types of marine accidents to or on board Spanish vessels worldwide, and other vessels in Spanish territorial waters. 2

7 ROYAL DECREE 862/2008 The objective of the Commission (CIAIM) is to investigate the accidents to determine its circumstances and technical causes. With the aim of improving i the safety of life at sea and the avoidance of accidents in the future It is NOT the purpose to apportion liability, nor, to apportion blame. We do not carry out prosecutions. 7
