1 June 2018 Fellow legionaries, Commanders Corner It is an honor From and the desk privilege of the Commander to have been Hardin selected Post 113 as your new Commander. I look forward to working with returning and newly selected board members this upcoming year. As a team, I believe we can continue moving forward supporting the legion, its members and creating events that will keep you coming back to your legion more often to enjoy. I want to personally thank previous Commander John Saunders for his efforts and the accomplishments both he and his staff has done these past two years! I will be officially retiring 1 August after a total of 38 years in the Army. I first joined Regular Army in 1976 as a Missile repairman for the Nike Hercules missile system. Took a small break in service, joined the Army Reserves for a few years and returned to Active Duty status in I have served in many positons over my career to include Sr Drill Sergeant both Active and Reserve. Sr Career Counselor and currently assigned to Army Careers Division as the HQ First Sergeant / Executive NCO. I am married to my beautiful wife Ileana, who is also active duty for another year or so. She herself has served over 28 years in the Army. I have 3 boys, Nick 38, Eric 32 and Sean 28, all who are back home in Los Angeles, CA. Nick and his fiancée are expecting their first baby mid-june (our 1st grandchild)! Eric works for the Postal Service and Sean my youngest recently got married to Heidi this past November on veterans weekend. Prior to returning to active duty, I worked for Krogers Grocery Manufacturing Facility for 18 years back home in Los Angeles and during that tenure, I spent the last 5 of the 18 years as the union steward representing fellow employees when dealing with grievances between the company and union contract disputes. First and foremost, we will continue to support veterans by working with our local community and its officials. I believe that we (Board Members) will create events that you will enjoy year round. Events such as, monthly dances; working with local casinos (1 day bus turn-around trip); upgrading the bar area; working with distilleries for in-house bourbon events and more. All ideas are welcomed!! Larry W. Magana, Commander, Hardin Post William Graham Norman Lynch John Nowak Walter Brewer, Jr. Donald Holbrook Donald Osborne Samuel Arredondo Sr. Robert Wright Auxiliary Unit 113 From the desk of the President Auxiliary Unit May was a very busy month with the election of your new officers; Legion breakfast; Hooray for Heroes; National Poppy Day activities; breakfast for BBQ, Bikes & Blues; Memorial Day Services and the awarding of scholarships. I thank ALL the volunteers that helped make this month a great success for our military, veterans, citizens and their families. June is also a full month with our monthly meeting; Girls State and Convention. Girls State is a wonderful program that helps educate our young ladies in the workings of government and becoming leaders by working together to settle differences to accomplish the mission. Please come to Convention and support our own Jerilynn Kabel as she becomes Department President! We also have the Legion breakfast, Flag Day on the 14th and remember to honor our Fathers for Father s Day on the 17th! Please check the Legion calendar for all the events for this month. Please continue to support our raffle fundraiser. Tickets are $1.00 each with a chance to win $500-1st Place; $250-2nd Place or $100 for 3rd Place. Drawing is on July 4th. Let s get out and sell, sell, sell!! On a personal note, I will do my best to help lead this Unit successfully for the next year; but, I won t be doing it alone. I have a great Executive Board and especially great members who have my back! Thank you all for your support and together we ll make this year a great success! Jan Fulkerson, President, ALA Hardin Unit 113

5 5 Chaplains Corner Humility Please pray for: Dave Hayes / Ron Atkinson / Jeff Hall / Herb Ritchie / Jonah Grogan / Gary Dalton / Charlotte VanKirk / Mary Archambault / Chris Barnes / Gary Daniel / Don Reynolds / Brandon Cianchetti / Darlene Probus Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing withone another in love. Ephesians 4:2 A lot of times we are living these secret lives - hiding certain aspects of ourselves because we are afraid we will lose respect from people. Although that might be true for some people, for most, the opposite will actually happen. Your loved ones will appreciate that you are showing them your heart and they will probabl y show you theirs too. There is an incredible power that comes from living from a place of humility. Humility is strong. Ver often we think to be a humble person means to be self-deprecating, to say bad things about hyourself, to never talk and to not be ambitious. But that s not what being humble means. Humility and shame are opposities. Shame causes you to hide things in hour life while humility causes you to be vulnerable and to lift other people up. I think I would rather be humble. What about you? Pray: Dear Father, give me the courage to be humble. I want to be vulnerable and to show my hear to other. Amen Please feel free to contact Post 113 Chaplain Randy, for prayer needs and also to share our legion blessings: Contact Send an to: james.crank@twc.com Celebrate Flag Day It's the day that marks the adoption of the flag of the United States which happened on June 14, 1777, thanks to a resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Display the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses! Flag Day is also a special day for the United States Army because it's the day they celebrate their birthday. Happy Birthday United States Army! Post Family Clean Up Day / June 9th, Saturday, 0930 hrs 2d Vice Randy Cote, Leading the charge to beautify Hardin Post 113! Have a hearty breakfast and then let s all give a little of our time to help make our Legion Family Home a place we can continue to be proud of!
