1 JROTC 1 Leadership Education Training (LET) 1 st Year Instructor: MSG Todd Norris Room: Portable 3 Conference Hours: Call for conference School Phone: todd.norris@rcsd.ms JROTC phone: Cell Phone: School Year: GENERAL DESCRIPTION The United States Army's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. Its focus is reflected in its mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens." It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community, and nation. Course Objectives To motivate young people to be better citizens COURSE MATERIALS Textbooks are provided for each student to use IN CLASS. Uniforms are provided at NO COST to the student. RULES AND EXPECTATIONS Follow the acronym LDRSHIP: Loyalty - Be loyal to the school, the program, the class, and your fellow cadets. You are a member of a team and the team functions best when everyone works toward a common goal. Duty - Do what you are supposed to do all the time. LET IIIs and IVs set the example for the rest of the program. When you don't do your duty, others notice and wonder... Respect - Respect everyone. Respect those above you including faculty and cadet leadership. Respect your classmates and those you lead. The best way to get respect is to earn it by respecting others. Selfless - It's not all about you. Help those who need it when they need it. When you help others, others will help you. Honor - Live up to the values we teach (courage, duty, integrity, loyalty, respect, and selfless service). Your actions determine your honor. Integrity - Do not lie, cheat, or steal. Live by the cadet creed and demonstrate a high set of moral values and principles. Personal Courage - Stand up for what you know is right. Do not let others influence you to make bad choices. Conquer your fears and take responsibility for your decisions and actions.

2 JROTC Cadet Creed I am an Army Junior ROTC Cadet. I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets. I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America. I do not lie, cheat or steal and will always be accountable for my actions and deeds. I will always practice good citizenship and patriotism. I will work hard to improve my mind and strengthen my body. I will seek the mantle of leadership and stand prepared to uphold the Constitution and the American way of life. May God grant me the strength to always live by this creed. CONSEQUENCES: Breaking rules established by RCSD and FHS results in punishment as determined by the school administration. Breaking a rule of JROTC can result in an adverse leadership grade, loss of rank, loss of position, and/or a combination of all three. ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT A student who enhances their educational performance through any dishonest means shall be given a zero and subject to suspension or expulsion for the remainder of the year. RCSD Board Policy JICD GRADING Quiz s and Uniform Day = 60% Participation/daily grades = 40% GRADING SCALE A = B = C = D = F = 0-59 ATTENDANCE Students must attend at least 80 classes in a course scheduled all year and at least 40 classes in a course scheduled for one semester. In addition, students in grades 7-12 must be in attendance at least 70 percent of a class period to be considered present and for exemption from final exams for perfect attendance. 3 TARDY A student is tardy for school if he/she arrives at school after the tardy bell has rung. A tardy slip must be secured from the office prior to admittance to class. A student missing 30 minutes of his/her first period class shall be considered absent, unexcused, and cannot be considered for perfect attendance. Tardies to school and class will be counted per semester of the school year and all tardy reports will be kept on file in the principal s office. Students that accumulate three tardies in a semester (per class) or six in a school year (per class) lose the privilege of exemption from final exams.
