1 Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers University of Wisconsin Madison Chapter Constitution Updated July 18, 2016 ARTICLE I NAME The name of this organization shall be the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) University of Wisconsin-Madison Chapter. ARTICLE II PURPOSE The purpose of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers is to provide opportunities to develop lasting industrial, faculty, and student relationships, to facilitate community involvement, and to enhance educational programs across all disciplines within Industrial Engineering. ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP There shall be two classes of membership: REGULAR and DISTINGUISHED Member. Section A: The REGULAR membership at UW-Madison includes all IISE members in good standing with paid membership to the national IISE organization. Section B: The DISTINGUISHED member status at UW-Madison includes all REGULAR members who complete the DISTINGUISHED membership requirements laid out in Article VII. DISTINGUISHED members will be recognized and rewarded for their dedication to the organization at the end of each semester. ARTICLE IV OFFICERS Section A: The Executive Board of IISE shall include: President, Vice President, Financial, Fundraising, Technical, Outreach, Communications, External Relations, Social, Education, and Freshman Ambassador officer positions. Section B: The Executive Officers are required to be paid members of national IISE organization Page 1 of 6

2 Section C: The Executive Officer shall serve for a term of one year. If the position is split between multiple individuals, the term of the team lasts one year. Section D: All Executive Officers are required to attend officer meetings and all other meetings unless school/work conflict, to be reviewed by President. Section E: Any officer failing to perform his/her duties as outlined shall resign and a successor be designated by election. Vote to be performed by remaining officer board with tie to be determined by President. Section F: The officer board shall be comprised only of students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, and are solely responsible for making all decisions regarding IISE UW-Madison Chapter and the organization s management. ARTICLE V OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES Section A: President 1 Shall be the overall leader of the organization. 2 Ensure that the ideals of IISE UW Madison are both withheld and modified to complement changing student needs. 3 Oversee all committees to ensure that the goals are met. 4 Shall be responsible for keeping the minutes of all officer meetings. Section B: Vice President 1 Shall be the primary industrial contact for the organization. 2 Assist the President and act as President in President s absence. 3 Take charge of member management, manage and track the Distinguished Members program, and plan the Distinguished Member Networking Banquet. 4 Participate in the Industry Sponsor Benefits Program planning committee. Section C: Financial 1 Shall be the financial contact for the organization. 2 Keep IISE finances (both the University and off campus accounts) documented and organized transparently. 3 Maintain a balanced budget and distribute checks. 4 Write grants for funds such as ASM and Polygon and pursue industry funding. 5 Will give regular treasurer s reports at IISE meetings and fill out the organization s taxes. Section D: External Relations Page 2 of 6

3 1 Maintain communication with other IISE Chapters, UW Student Organizations, and assist Vice President in communicating with companies. 2 Coordinate the regional conference trip and the logistics thereof (chartered bus, hotel reservations, paper presenters, sign-up sheets, etc.) 3 Coordinate IISE s E-Week activities, Expo involvement, and serving as IISE s representative at Polygon meetings. 4 Help in the planning of the Intern/Co-Op Sharing Night and the Industry Sponsor Benefits Program. Section E: Social 1 Coordinator of all social activities. 2 Organizer of a variety of activities throughout the year to increase the IISE feeling of community and to create informal networks within the organization. Section F: Education 1 Shall be the focal point for educational development within the organization and the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department. 2 Develop the ISyE department and provide a variety of services for students, such as mentoring and advising. 3 Plan the IISE advising night, Student/Professor events, and work to improve IISE s relationship with ISyE faculty, and to improve professor involvement in IISE. Section G: Outreach 1 Seek out community service activities for the organization to pursue. 2 The community service will be performed during outreach activities at local high schools and at various sites around the campus community. Section H: Communications 1 Obtain articles for, designs, and prints the IISE chapter newsletter each semester. 2 Ensure that events and announcements are properly communicated to the ISyE department, graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty, the College of Engineering, and to all other interested parties. 3 Maintain the IISE events calendar on the IISE Website. 4 Direct other officers when and how to communicate their own Events. Section I: Historian 1 Take photos of IISE events to post on our social media pages and other communications to market IISE 2 Keep a record of IISE activities for reference in our semester newsletter Page 3 of 6

4 Section J: Technical 1 Explore new technology and resources for an innovative means to inform interested parties about IISE. 2 Design & maintain the IISE website & mail server. Section J : Fundraising 1 Shall be in charge of running IISE s Hockey Concession stand. 2 Three students will fill this role together. 3 Shall be the primary contact for the UW-Concessions Department. 4 Recruit volunteers and maintain proper accounting at the stand. 5 Design, market and sell IISE apparel. 6 Continue to pursue new fundraising opportunities for IISE. Section K: Freshman Ambassador 1 Plan and execute the Freshman/Sophomore Event. 2 Take and organize pictures from all events. 3 Assist with a variety of other events and tasks to gain leadership skills and learn about the procedures of IISE. ARTICLE VI MEETINGS Section A : General Members Meetings 1 To be held once a month for members and requires attendance from officer board unless school/work conflict, to be resolved with President before meeting. Section B: Officer Meetings 1 Mandatory meetings for officers to attend in order to plan upcoming events. Every officer is responsible for his/her function, and will be subject to review if responsibilities are not met or more than three officer meetings are unattended. Section C: Individual Meetings/Events 1 Each officer is to plan event per their function on the officer board. Required to ensure room is reserved, food provided (if budget allows), and all required amenities are taken care of (computer, projector, name tags, etc.) ARTICLE VII THE DISTINGUISHED MEMBER PROGRAM Page 4 of 6

5 Section A : DISTINGUISHED MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS 1 Must be a paid member of the IISE National Chapter 2 Requirements Per Semester: Attendance of one (1) Outreach Event. Accumulation of (6) DM Points. DM Points are awarded on the following basis. 2 One point for attendance of: General Member Meeting Social Event Professional Development Event Up to (1) Study night per semester Each additional Outreach Event Each IISE Concessions Stand shift in addition to first two 4 Two points for attendance of: IISE North Central Regional Conference. 5 Additional points available: At the discretion of the IISE Board. 6 Annual Requirements: Two (2) Volunteer shifts at the IISE Concessions Stand during a Wisconsin Badgers Men s Ice Hockey Game. Attendance to the IISE Alumni Event held annually in the Spring. A member awarded DISTINGUISHED member status in the Fall that fails to complete either of these requirements by the end of the Spring semester will result in the revocation of that member s DISTINGUISHED member status. 7 Penalties: A member who cancels on attending a hockey stand they previously signed up for unreasonable late without a valid excuse will lose a DM point at the discretion of the IISE Board. Section B : DISTINGUISHED MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS 1 Any member who completes ALL requirements for becoming a DISTINGUISHED member during a semester will receive the following: Invitation to the Distinguished Member s Banquet at the end of that semester Full access to the IISE past exam database Priority position in the IISE UW-Madison resume book distributed to IISE Sponsors Recognition on the IISE UW-Madison website as a DISTINGUISHED member Discounts to select IISE Events Page 5 of 6

6 ARTICLE VIII OFFICER ELECTIONS Officer elections are held annually in the spring by a nomination procedure then a full membership vote. Those who desire officer positions are required to present to the group and receive feedback immediately of results. ARTICLE IX AMENDMENTS Amendments to either the IISE Constitution or Bylaws may be made at any time, and must be approved by a majority of the IISE Officer Board. Page 6 of 6
