3 The SF unit was first formed as a Paratroop Detachment on M arch 18 th 1943

4 1943 Founded as a Paratroop Detachment on March 18th WW2 59 KIA and 151 WIA on WW2 battlefields 1964 Two Paratroop-Reconnaissance Bases were formed 1975 Merged into 68th Paratroop- Reconnaissance Regiment, situated in the city of Plovdiv 1993 HISTORY Reorganized into 68th Paratroop- Reconnaissance Brigade subordinated to General Staff

5 HISTORY 2000 Special Forces Command was founded. The Brigade was transformed into 68 SOF Bde and subordinated to the SFC 2001 Special Forces Command was subordinated to Land Forces HQ 2006 Special Forces Command was closed down and the brigade was subordinated directly to LF HQ st Parachute Regiment - Sliven and the 101st Alpine Battalion - Smolyan was subordinated to the Brigade Since the brigade had new organization 2016 Brigade was subordinated to CHIEF OF DEFENCE

6 MAIN AND ADDITIONAL TASKS The BGR SOF contributes to all missions of the Bulgarian armed forces. Defense mission Main Tasks: - Special reconnaissance; - Direct actions; - Military assistance; - Counter terrorism operations; Additional Tasks: Assistance to Ministry of the interior to prevent illegal emigrants invasion in Republic of Bulgaria Hostage Release Operations Combat Search And Rescue
