1 PRIMARY ELECTION FACT SHEET Election Date: Tuesday, June 7, 2016 Poll Hours: Voter Registration Deadlines: Where to Register: Registration Changes: Absentee Voting: 7:00 am to 9:00 pm Mail voter registration forms worry-free postmarked date is May 23 rd. Registration postmarked on or before this day are considered on time to pre-register, even if they are received after 5 p.m. on May 27 th. Voter registrations delivered to the County Auditor s office or done in person must be completed on or before five o clock pm on Saturday, May 27 th to be pre-register. The Guthrie County Auditor s Office, 200 N. 5 th Street, Guthrie Center, weekdays between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Name and address changes within Guthrie County may be made any time up to and including election day. Prior to election day, changes are made by the same means as registration. On election day changes may be made at the voters new polling place with proper identification. Changes of address from outside Guthrie County are considered new registrations. Absentee votes may be cast at the Election Office through June 6 th, the day prior to the election. Request forms for absentee ballots may be obtained at the Guthrie County Auditor s Office, on the Guthrie County website at or the State of Iowa website at Please use Official Absentee Request forms to insure that the Auditor s Office can process the absentee ballot requested in a timely manner. The last day for the Auditor s office to mail an absentee ballot is Friday, June 3 rd. Voted absentee ballots must be postmarked by midnight the day prior to the election (June 6 th ) or may be dropped off at the Auditor s Office before the polls close (9:00 pm) on Election Day, June 7 th.

The following items are included: 1. News release of availability of absentee ballots. 2. News release regarding additional office hours and registration deadlines. 3. News release regarding absentee voting deadlines. 4. Fact sheet containing information relevant to the Primary Election, including a list of voting sites. 5. Listing of Primary Election offices that will appear on the ballot. A list of candidates will be available after the March 30 th, filing deadline. For Release after April 28, 2016: Jerri Christman, Guthrie County Auditor, announces that absentee ballots for the Primary Election to be held June 7 th are now available in the Auditor s office. Any person unable to get to the polls on June 7, 2016, may fill out and send an Official Absentee Request form to the Guthrie County Auditor s Office, 200 N. 5 th Street, Guthrie Center, IA The request must contain the name, address, address where the ballot is to be mailed, Party affiliation, and the request must be signed by the person requesting a ballot. Requests must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3 rd. You

4 may obtain the Official Absentee Request form from Guthrie County s Website at: Absentee ballots may also be voted in the Auditor s office week days from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4 th, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Anyone having questions regarding absentee voting may contact the Auditor s office, For Release prior to June 4, 2016: The Guthrie County Auditor s Office will be open Saturday, June 4 th, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of voting an absentee ballot for the June 7 th, Primary Election. Absentee ballots for the June 7 th, Primary Election may be cast at the Auditor s Office, Guthrie County Courthouse, 200 N. 5 th Street, Guthrie Center, through June 6 th or by mail. The last day to mail an absentee ballot to a voter is June 3 rd. Absentee ballots returned by mailed must be postmarked by June 6 th at midnight.
