1 Accreditation Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies The Collier County Sheriff s Office was first accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 1994 and has been successfully reaccredited every three years since. According to information from CALEA, only a small percentage of law enforcement agencies have been accredited through CALEA. National Academies of Emergency Dispatch The Collier County Sheriff s Office, Communications Division, is officially recognized as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAEMD). The Agency was first awarded NAEMD Accreditation in the second in the nation to be accredited in emergency medical dispatch - and was reaccredited in 2004 and Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation The Collier County Sheriff s Office has attained state-level accreditation status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. The process includes policy and standard compliance and an on-site review every three years. The Agency was first awarded this status in 1998, and was reaccredited in 2001, 2004, and The Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission The Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission evaluates corrections operations against standards developed by the Florida Corrections Commission. Collier County Sheriff s Office - Family Friendly Workplace In 2007 The Collier County Sheriff s Office was designated a Naples Alliance for Children Family Friendly Business. The Agency was honored for its workplace policies and programs that help employees take an active part in raising their children. Traffic Safety and Law Enforcement Challenge Every year the Collier County Sheriff s Office has won first place in the Law Enforcement Challenge Awards competition, either on the national level or on the state level since These competitions judge law enforcement agencies on their enforcement and educational efforts in occupant protection, speeding and impaired driving. 30 Years February 2008 marks the thirtieth year since the life-saving 911 system debuted. Back then, dispatchers received an average of 25 calls for assistance per day. By 1994, 171 calls per day were coming in. And, by 2007, an average of 411 people were calling 911 in Collier County each day. Youth Relations Bureau... In 1977, the Collier County Sheriff s Office formalized its Youth Relations Bureau. Originally, eight deputies were assigned to middle and high schools. Today, the Youth Relations Bureau has more than 40 deputies assigned to Collier County s schools. The Jr. Deputy program was one of the first school programs implemented through the Youth Relations Bureau and is still in existence today.
