6 Annual Cost Savings The US Bureau of Labor releases an annual report that calculates the national average hourly value of a volunteer s time. The value of volunteer time is based on the average hourly earnings of all production and nonsupervisory workers on private payrolls (as determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics). Using the Value of Volunteer Time calculation the following savings have been transferred to the City of Guttenberg and the citizens protected by the Guttenberg Fire Department. These numbers show what money would have been paid to members if they had not VOLUNTEERED their time. Value of Volunteer Time: $.5 per hour Calls for Service: 16 Hours Minus current rate: $8. per hour Total Volunteer Value: $ 15,15. Training: 1,39 Hours Total Volunteer Value: $ 9,57.5 Community Presentations: 18 Hours Total Volunteer Value: $ 4,5. Total Savings With Volunteer Hours $ 48,68.5 The department has participated in 1,39 hours of training. There are,8 working hours total in one year; by comparison the Department is training 64% of all working hours in one year! For more information on the numbers and figures used to determine this savings go to the following websites: OR PAGE 6 OF 16

15 The Department continues the process to replace Engine 78. The Apparatus Committee continued to review specifications for a new vehicle. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that all pumper apparatus be replaced every years. Currently Engine 78 is 1 years old. Our other pumper apparatus (Engine 75) is also 1 years old. Because of the recent maintenance and better safety features of Engine 75 we have opted to replace Engine 78 first. Because of the extreme importance of these two vehicles we are taking our time and starting the replacement process early so that we can work out any problems and get the best replacement apparatus possible. Several specs have been reviewed and grant and funding opportunities are being researched. The department applied for the Assistance To Firefighters Grant three years in a row to try to help offset the cost of the new apparatus, but was turned down. Our goal is still to stay on schedule with our 5-year plan and have the new apparatus in service before 14. The department requires new members to complete the Firefighter 1 training program. Firefighter Jarad Esmann and Firefighter Bobby Bailey will be completing the training in 13. The department s goal is to get all new members trained to the State standard and maintain that standard for all current members. PAGE 15 OF 16
16 From The Guttenberg Fire Department The Guttenberg Fire Department would like to take this time to say THANK YOU to all those who have donated to the department throughout 1. Whether it was a donation of money and goods or it was their time. These items and moments are greatly appreciated. We would also like to take this moment to ensure the citizens within the Guttenberg Fire District that we will continue to train and do everything within our means to provide for their safety in the coming year. If there are ever any questions for us please feel free to contact any Firefighter or use the contact info listed in this report and we will do our best to get a fast and accurate answer back to you.
