2 LifeSkills Family Care Plan This workshop outlines the significance of a Family Care Plan, and the importance of always having it updated per MCO C dated 25 Mar Interpersonal Communication This workshop is preventive in nature, to increase competence in using more effective communication skills, and to promote healthy relationships through communication. It helps Marines and families learn how to communicate with one another in an effective manner. Aging Parents & Elder Care This workshop will help Marines and their families in dealing with the complexities of assisting elderly adults. It helps Marines and their families make informed decisions concerning elder care, as well as strategies for coping with day-to-day challenges involved with caring for your elderly loved one. Building Lasting Relationships The challenges of a military lifestyle can place many demands on Marines and their families. This workshop provides practical information and tools to enhance healthy relationships. Basic Stress Management This workshop is designed to help Marines and their families minimize stress by providing them with basic education on the concepts and management skills needed to successfully navigate both the everyday stress and extraordinary stress of a Marine Corps lifestyle. Safe and Sound at Home This workshop provides important safety precautions for Marine Corps families, and instills spouse/family members with the ability and confidence to be responsible for their personal safety and the safety of their families while their Marines are deployed. Emergency Preparedness This workshop contains information regarding actions that Marines and families should take to be informed and prepared in the event of natural and manmade hazards. This workshop outlines the importance of our Marines and families to always be prepared for all types of emergencies! Social Network Safety This workshop addresses the dangers and risks, as well as positive outcomes, associated with social networking. It provides Marines and their families with information on how to protect themselves and family members, and ways to stay safe while on the internet, and on social networking sites. Four Lenses Temperament Intelligence Four Lenses help participants "discover the differences in perception and perspective amongst four distinct personality types and learn to understand, accept and value your unique strengths, as well as those of your family/friends/coworkers/peers." Premarital Workshop This course is locally driven by MCBJ C. The topics covered in this course are: the requirements of local marriage orders, the procedure to marry in Japan and in neighboring countries, family programs and resources, IPAC benefits, Tricare services, legal education and services, Immigration procedures, financial partnerships and basic communication strategies. 3 Lifestyles, Insights, Networking, Knowledge, Skills (L.I.N.K.S.) L.I.N.K.S. for Spouses The L.I.N.K.S. for Spouses workshop is designed for Marine Corps spouses of any age and experience level. This workshop provides information about the Marine Corps, opportunities for networking and information about local resources and opportunities. Advanced L.I.N.K.S. for Spouses The Advanced L.I.N.K.S. for Spouses builds on the foundation from previous workshops by offering more in-depth information for spouses who have been married to their Marine L.I.N.K.S. for Teens L.I.N.K.S. for Teens provides information on the Marine Corps, money management, the challenges of moving, establishing and maintaining connections and more..... all addressed from a teen perspective. This workshop is geared for teens age L.I.N.K.S. for Kids L.I.N.K.S. for Kids is designed to provide kids age 6 12 with an opportunity to have fun while learning about the Marine Corps, moving, internet safety and much more. L.I.N.K.S. for Marines L.I.N.K.S. for Marines workshops are scheduled by Unit request and provide an alternative format for gaining insight and making the most of the Marine Corps life. L.I.N.K.S. for Couples This is an opportunity for Marines and their spouses to attend a workshop tailored especially for couples. Couples have the chance to connect with each other and other couples while learning about local resources, gaining insight, and sharing tips and tidbits that enhance the Marine Corps lifestyle. 4 Unit, Personal and Family Readiness Program (UPFRP) **Please register for these classes through your FRO** Savvy Spouses Savvy Spouses is designed to empower spouses attached to Marine units by exploring the components of family readiness. Basic roles and responsibilities of your Command Team and its supporting elements will be introduced. Understanding the structure, support and resources available will help spouses capitalize on what this program has to offer. Family Readiness Officer (FRO) Training Family Readiness Officer (FRO) training provides FROs and Deputy FROs with the required information and resources to be successful in their roles and to effectively support the UPFRP. Command Team Training Command Team Training is designed to orient and guide Command Team members in their roles, responsibilities, and operating components of their UPFRP. This training provides the required information to implement and execute a successful program. Command Team Advisor/Family Readiness Assistant Training Command Team Advisor/Family Readiness Assistant training familiarizes Advisors and Assistants with their volunteer roles and responsibilities. This training will also provide detailed information about the roles, responsibilities and operating procedures of the Command Team. OPSEC for Volunteers Operational Security (OPSEC) is a required annual training for all appointed volunteers Command Team Advisors and Family Readiness Assistants. During this training, volunteers will learn about the latest OPSEC issues, including a special focus on social media. emarine Training emarine training teaches new FROs and Deputy FROs how to navigate and manage emarine. The half-day lab offers emarine administrators an opportunity work on their unit s site with a trainer present to answer any questions or concerns. emarine Lab This lab gives FROs and family members the ability to ask questions, trouble-shoot problems, and familiarize oneself with emarine. Commanding Officer (CO)/Senior Enlisted Spouse Training Commanding Officer/Senior Enlisted Spouse training orients CO, Sergeant Major, and/or Senior Enlisted Marine Corps spouses with their unique role. Responsibilities and operating components of their role within the UPFRP will be discussed. Page 3 of 5
5 Readiness and Deployment Support Program Hearts Apart Hearts Apart Okinawa is a deployment group open to all military spouses who are experiencing, have experienced, or will experience deployment with their Marine or Sailor. Meetings occur monthly and are supported by MFLC, Chaplains or other counseling services, as well as have invited guest speakers based on the interests of the group. Strong Military Couples Offered island-wide by MCFTB and at Unit request, this workshop is designed for couples who experience separation and the resulting reintegration process due to deployments and off-island exercises. Topics include expectations and change, reintegration and stress, communication and The 5 Love Languages. Couples in attendance will receive a FREE copy of Gary Chapman s The 5 Love Languages Military Edition. Beyond the Brief Series Beyond the Brief is a series of workshops aimed at addressing topics identified as needing more discussion after the initial pre-deployment brief. These individual workshops delve into greater depth on the topics addressed in the pre-deployment briefs in a more hands-on manner. While Beyond the Brief Workshops can be requested on any subject by Units, the following series is offered island-wide: Should I Stay or Should I Go? This workshop assists spouses in evaluating their options to remain on island or leave while their spouse deploys. It provides a pros and cons activity, as well as local resources and information regarding housing, pay, healthcare, travel, etc. Finance and Budgeting This workshop discusses the basics of short and long term financial planning. It focuses on promoting responsible ways to utilize extra deployment pay, creating a personalized deployment budget, and methods of stretching a budget using savvy shopping. Improve Your Health & Happiness This workshop provides insight into handling the stress of separation. This workshop focuses on stress management, improving time management skills, and bettering nutrition for the family members. Deployment Success This workshop promotes success for the spouse with suggestions for fun things to do, goal setting and resources to continue to be successful, while networking with other deployed spouses. Kids and Deployment For children 5-12, this workshop promotes deployment success for kids, including reactions to deployment, ways to help, and sources of help. It offers a great place for children to meet and interact with other children whose parents are deployed. Pre-Deployment Brief Offered at Unit request and for Individual Augmentees, pre-deployment briefs provide an overview of the deployment process. Briefs cover topics such as legal planning, personal preparations, communication, and local resources with the participation of island support organizations. Return and Reunion for Spouses and Significant Others This workshop is held at Unit request and for spouses of returning Individual Augmentees. The Return and Reunion Workshop is an interactive round table that discusses the expectations and challenges associated with the return of the deployed spouse. Page 4 of 5
6 Japanese Spouse Orientation (JSO) **All of the following courses are in Japanese** Health & Wellness This program covers TRICARE, the Naval Hospital, 3 rd Dental Battalion, FOCUS and MFLAC. Space-A Travel Representatives from the AMC Terminal are invited to help spouses how to use Space Available Flight. Educational Program This program covers University of Maryland University College (UMUC), Central Texas College (CTC), MCCS Human Resources Office, MCCS Education Center, MCCS Information & Referral and MCCS Library. Daily Life Tips Program This program covers Post Office, Community Bank, Commissary and EXCHANGE. Family Support Program This program covers Legal Assistance Office, Behavioral Health Family Advocacy Program (BHFAP), Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), American Red Cross and School Liaison Office. Immigration Visa Workshop Representatives from U.S. Consulate will discuss how to apply for Immigration Visa for their Non-U.S. citizen spouses. L.I.N.K.S. for Japanese Spouses The L.I.N.K.S. for Japanese Spouses provides information about the Marine Corps in a format intended to address the practical and cultural questions specific to Japanese spouses. Attendance at this workshop is encouraged for Japanese fiancées, new and experienced spouses. Page 5 of 5
