1 1957 January 1957 On Monday 7 th farewell was said to the outgoing officers of the Division. Camberwell Citadel was the place of meeting. It was also the farewell for the DC, Brigadier and Mrs R. Darlow. The Brigadier was appointed Territorial Mens Social Secretary. Brigadier and Mrs H. Maunder of Tasmania were appointed to this Division as the new DCs. 20 th The Holiness Meeting at the Citadel was broadcast from Station 3DB.This was conducted by the Divisional Commander, Brigadier R. Darlow. 27 th An inspiring Holiness Meeting was led by the Editor-in-Chief, Brigadier Sidney Williams and Mrs Williams who were soon due to leave Australia for a London appointment. In the Salvation meeting farewell was said to Brigadier I. Howden, Matron of Bethany for nine years, and now entering retirement. Feb 3 rd On their welcome tour of the Division, Brigadier and Mrs Maunder conducted the Holiness Meeting on this date. 17 th A unique and very effective Senior Corps Renewal Sunday was held preparatory to the great Meet the Master Campaign and prior to the visit to Australia of Senior Major Alistair Smith (see copy of the Renewal Declaration attached. 2 21st & 22nd During these two days Senior Major Alistair Smith, the noted Holiness teacher, conducted two great gatherings in the Camberwell Town Hall. They were dynamic vital meetings in which many people were influenced towards Holiness. Camberwell Band and Songsters and Hawthorn Band and Songsters gave excellent musical support. 3 Mar 2 nd & 3 rd April 12 th May 17 th Former officers of the Corps, Brigadier and Mrs Alan Young conducted the 1957 Harvest Thanksgiving Week-end, and the Footscray Band and Songsters rendered a Saturday night program of splendid Salvationism. Total amount raised The CO arranged a Corps Half-night of prayer, in which all sections of the Corps were responsible to lead half-hour sessions. There was a thrilling response and all felt the powerful influence of this occasion. The direct result was a far reaching effect in many ways and with many problem people.

6 May 18 th 19 th Divisional Songster Leader Howard Cowan of Norwood, South Australia was the truly inspiring figure upon whom devolved the outstanding success of the Camberwell Songster Week-end. Fine crowds attended the series of special meetings, the singers gave of their utmost for the Glory of God, and new people were attracted to the meetings. Recently the CO conducted the Dedication of the respective babies of Bro & Sis Bill Humphries, Bro & Sis Edgar Spencer, Bro & Sis A Bergmark, Bro & Sis Len Jack, and Bro & Sis David Coull. June 8 th 9 th The 47 th Corps Anniversary Celebrations were designed to stir up spiritual fervour with the Corps and also draw in strangers from outside. It was a very memorable week-end, and the comrades readily gave in the Sunday night meeting towards the Building Fund project.

10 June 15 th The wedding of Captain Beryl Quantock and Lieutenant John Coverdale was conducted by The Field Secretary, Colonel W.A.Forbes. 16 th Four seekers in the night meeting. 23 rd On Home League Sunday, Mrs Commissioner Sandells conducted the Salvation meeting and three seekers were brought to the mercy seat.

11 Building fund envelope July 14 th August Camberwell Corps was honoured by a visit from Commissioner and Mrs E Grinstead, the Territorial Leaders of the Eastern Territory soon to take up appointment in London as British Commissioner. The Commissioner s Holiness address made a profound impression upon all who heard. The CO recently accepted invitations to give lectures on The Salvation Army functionings to the Business Club of Camberwell and Box Hill respectively. Return visits were requested on each occasion.this has assisted in better and more appreciated understanding of The Salvation Army. Sept 6 th The Annual Badge Day & Street Stall was held under very fine conditions although windy. The financial result exceeded last years effort, and, combined with the Bethany Fair on to realize a total of towards completion of the New Citadel Building Scheme. Sept 22 nd A wonderful response on the Altar Service Sunday (Self Denial) brought the splendid sum of , being Senior Corps & YP Corps aggregate. The final over-all amount raised for the 1957 Self-Denial Appeal by the Corps was the magnificent figure of 1, , smashing the Target once again. 29 th Expectant crowds gathered on this Sunday as the Territorial Commander and Mrs. Commissioner G. Sandells conducted soul-stirring meetings throughout the day. Rain ruled out the big open-air Rally & March of Witness at night, but did not dampen our spirits. A large gathering in the afternoon ws intrigued and moved by the Commissioners special address The Salvation Army and World Affairs. Oct 5 th & 6 th Major Bautovich CO, and the Camberwell Songster Brigade of fortythree members, travelled to Geelong Central Corps for the week-end. It was a highly successful trip and was of great benefit spiritually both to the Songsters and to the Geelong Corps. Oct 12/13/19 The Young Peoples Anniversary was held over this period, and the week-end leaders were Lt Colonel & Mrs. C. Begley of THQ. In attendances, enthusiasm, performance, and finance, this year was reckoned to be one of the best ever held. October 27 th Camberwell Corps Hospital Sunday contribution total was , more than double the previous year. October 20 th

12 November 3rd A Remembrance Service was conducted in the Citadel by Lt.Colonel Alan Sharp in tribute to Major Templeton who was Promoted to Glory from Bethany.

13 December 8 th Nov 16 th Dec 22 nd Dec 23 rd An occasion of great interest was the visit to Camberwell of Colonel & Mrs H. Wallace, Chief Secretary, Sydney and Colonel & Mrs A. Mingay, Chief Secretary, Melbourne (recently arrived from London). The wedding of Band Sergeant Peter Humphries and Primary Leader Joan Lanston was conducted by Major Bautovich. We were most happy to have Brigadier Harry Goffin of New Zealand to conduct the Sunday night Salvation Meeting. This was a great and historic occasion when the DC Brigadier Maunder, at a special function held at the Corps, received the final Building Scheme cheque from the CO Major Bautovich, indicating amid great rejoicing, that the Corps financial commitments in this regard were now fulfilled. Dec 25 th The Carolling this year was a great joy to both the carollers and the people, and an all-time record of was raised for Corps Funds.
