Reporting for time period from 01/01/2009 to 25/01/ Narrative / reference to other reports Note: Form J can be used to report, on a voluntary basis, on the efforts to encourage States not parties to join the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and to notify such States of Convention obligations as outlined in article 21. Japan serves as Friend of the President on the universalization of the CCM. Japan collaborated with other States Parties, International Organizations including the ICRC, and Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) and conducted outreach activities in States not parties to the CCM. Focusing on the universalization of the CCM in the Asia Pacific region, Japan approached States not parties to the CCM in the region through bilateral and multilateral channels and encouraged them to consider ratifying the Convention. In addition, as a part of its outreach activities, in March 2010 the Government of Japan, together with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo, held an event to celebrate the entry into force of the CCM and to promote its universalization in March In advance of the First Meeting of States Parties, Japan co-hosted a special event in NY on the margin of the United Nations General Assembly on the universalization of the CCM with Lao PDR. 37
