2 BACKGROUND PAPER CATEGORY D: OUTSTANDING DIGITAL PRESENCE Army Reserve Medical Command (ARMEDCOM) Public Affairs Social Media Program Strategic Objectives: The Army Reserve Medical Command Social Media (SM) program provides compelling information that is current, accurate and timely to Soldiers, spouses, Family members and Civilians throughout the ARMEDCOM foot print. Our medical population can educate themselves on units; connect with peers and Soldiers; stay informed on current affairs; ask questions or obtain assistance about the unit or who a good point of contact is for the unit. The SM sites have been a positive and a great recruiting tool for the command. Fans constantly reach out to our pages for assistance in finding a unit for themselves or a loved one living in the local area. Active Duty Soldiers utilize the pages as resources for future reserve duty. ARMEDCOM s utilizes pages as a resource to pass along information and provide engagement with Family members, Soldiers and Civilians. Family members engage our pages by conversing with other fans, posting comments, ask questions, and many times express their support and appreciation. The pages allow Army Reserve Soldiers, as well as, future Soldier, retirees and veterans, an opportunity to stay involved with the unit, received updates on command activities, guidance, changes and announcements. Our social media posts highlight the successes of our Soldiers, recognizing their accomplishments and congratulating them in many areas, such as, reenlistments, promotions, marriages, births, to a large and growing fan base. Our postings are in accordance with social media practices and standards. Mission Our social media mission is in direct support and synchronizing with the commands mission to train and equip medically proficient Citizen-Soldiers to meet global requirements. Be the Army Reserve s premier Medical Command by providing enhanced medical skills that serve as a force multiplier delivering vital medical capabilities essential to the Total Force; and ARMEDCOM s top four priorities, care for the force, develop leaders, train and equip at all levels, and reinforce accountability and discipline. Our pages publish new and innovative posts several times a day to ensure the content displays fresh and relevant news. Many posts include newsworthy articles, local, national and international, monthly observances, compelling information and guidance, engaging videos, and attention-grabbing photos that are shared across all social media platforms. Short-Term Goal Our short-term goal is to have our audience continually visit our social media pages when seeking out credible information about the Army Reserve Medical Command population.

3 Long-Term Goals To increase continually provide compelling information, to increase positive visibility of the command s intent and vision, support command initiatives and establish reliable and credible media sources. Educate local and national media outlets on the Army Reserve Medical Command and the Army Reserve. Continue to share post and content across all liked fan pages as well as Soldiers, Family members and Civilian s personal and command social media pages. Ensuring our message spreads wide and far among social media platforms and increase our fan page to 3500 likes and 3000 Twitter followers. Facebook likes have grown from 794, 1 January 2014 to 1,323, 31 December 2014 gaining 529 likes over the year. Our best five days in 2014 were 126 likes, 26 February; 72 likes, 22 June; 65 likes, 13 January; 51 likes, April 23; and 36 likes, 2 September. Our Twitter followers have increased by more than 83 percent, with 612 gained. Our Twitter has been selected for 20 Twitter Lists. Media Tie-In The success of our social media feeds, such as Facebook and Twitter, is validated by the number of our followers who are senior leaders from the Army Reserve and the Army, in addition civilian leaders and members of the media. Throughout 2014, these centers of influence and gravity have shared, commented on and retweeted out content we have posted. The Army Reserve Medical Command is an elite organization and the leading medical organization in the Army Reserve. Through our social media feeds, we have "set the record straight" about misinformation about issues concerning the Army Reserve or the greater military communities as a poster-of-record-an authoritative source that our fans and followers can rely on and pass on to others. Another function our social media feeds is to put out timely, interesting and significant pieces of news and commentary. Sometimes it is to show Soldiers playing flag football in South Korea or to introduce our fans and followers to the new secretary of defense. Our social media feeds, like every military public affairs office, push out command messages, dispel rumors and bolster morale for our internal audiences. In the past year, we put out the straight dope on new uniform regulations, explained possible pay problems and covered family events and special observances. In fact, through postings on Facebook, Twitter and other platforms, we consider ourselves one of the most effective morale boosters in our leaders' inventory.
