1 Situation Reports in India-2 28 th July, 2017 Situation in India Floods wreak havoc in Gujarat, West Bengal and Rajasthan whereas situation improved in Assam, Odisha and Manipur during the past few days. Below is the information in detailed. A. Situation Reports : 1. Floods Situation in Gujarat as on 28 th July, 2017 Source: Inter Agency Groups (IAGs), Medias Around people trapped have been rescued by NDRF, NGO s and local authorities in flood hit - Gujarat. NDRF has been deployed in Kheda/ Anand/ Valsad districts. 6 National Highways and 31 State Highways are still closed in districts of Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Sabarkatha, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskatha, Mahisagar, Tapi, Navsari, Dangs, Surendranagar and Botad. Impact of the situation: Banaskatha and Patan districts Worst affected District No. of population evacuated: Dhanera block Banaskatha district was worst affected and was inaccessible therefore Damages are estimated to be higher in the block as reported by IAG members. Nearly 50,000 people Government Response: PM has announced an interim relief of Rs. 500 crore for flood hit Gujarat. The Central Government announced Rs. 2 lakh for the families of those who have lost their lives in the floods. Those injured will be given Rs. 50,000 and above the assistance provided by the state government. 2 Humanitarians Response: Inter-Agency Groups-Gujarat is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with Districts Administration. 2. Floods Situation in Odisha as on 27 th July, 2017 Source: Inter Agency Groups (IAGs)-Gujarat, Medias Overall the flood situation in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts has improved as River Baitarani has receded. Floods Situation in West Bengal as on 28 th July, 2017 Since 21st July 2017 night, the Southern Districts of West Bengal namely South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata, Nadia, West Medinipur, Birbhum, West Burdwan and East Burdwan are experiencing heavy rainfall. Many low laying areas of Southern Bengal are now under water. Impact on the situation: Government Response: District control rooms are functional Emergency Operation Centre at Nabanna (State Secretariat Govt. of West Bengal) updating us on the situation. People from low laying areas shifted to safer places State Administration is monitoring Dam discharge status of Jharkhand State State Government made a request to Damador Valley Corporation for regulated water discharge from its storage State Disaster Response force deployed at vulnerable points Road connectivity (as mentioned in SitRep I) restored at Birbhum HAM Radio operators are also sharing information from the districts Page 3 of 6
4 Humanitarians Response: IAG district members monitoring the situation in coordination with District Disaster Management Officer State IAG and Department of Disaster Management exchanging latest update (on weather, DAM discharge and field level information) through WhatsAPP and other communication channel State IAG West Bengal is coordinating with State EOC and District IAG Members on the situation. Floods Situation in Rajasthan as on 28 th July, people were killed in rain-related incidents, 640 were rescued and 2,225 evacuated to safer places in Jalore, Sirohi, Pali and Barmer districts of Rajasthan in the past few days. The situation has improved gradually. Impact of the situation: No. of affected District No. of population evacuated: Jalore, Sirohi, Pali and Barmer Many villages in these districts were surrounded by water with no connectivity by road. Nearly 2225 people Government Response: Food packets and water bottles were distributed by district administration. Army have evacuated people to safer places.
