6 Mission Command of Autonomous Systems - Research Purpose: Extend Mission Command at BN echelon and below focusing on unmanned system planning and tactical utilization. Build capabilities that integrate into the Army s mission command strategy that will allow commanders and staff to dynamically task systems and expect intelligent responses. Products: Tools to simplify and automate the process for a commander to create a detailed Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) utilization plan from high-level tasks. Tools to help leaders maintain awareness and provide direction to RAS at critical mission intervention points. Define advanced behaviors (e.g. reconnaissance) for autonomous ground and air systems to allow for high-level tasking and execution PROJECT SCHEDULE Payoff: Integrate RAS into the planning process and allow commanders to direct RAS from the mission objective level rather than the task level Reduce cognitive burden by providing simple tools to mission command teams of unmanned systems. Increase formation effectiveness through integrated RAS teaming with military formations. 6
