2 Partnerships ALMR Goal Create partnerships across federal, state and local jurisdictions to build and operate a standards based interoperable land mobile radio system in Alaska. The goal will be achieved through: immediate transition to new system, planned migration over time and integration of existing systems.

5 Public Safety Wireless Communications Systems A Priority Investment for America s s Future Safety Toward Interoperable Public Safety Communications Obstacles to developing interoperable public safety communications include: Securing adequate funding; (FUNDING) Addressing spectrum constraints; (SPECTRUM) Establishing standards-based systems; (TECHNOLOGY) Protecting new systems from security threats; and (SECURITY) Coordinating among jurisdictions. (PLANNING & PARTNERSHIPS) Solid IT planning and project management, coupled with an ongoing awareness of these obstacles, can help federal, state and local governments realize improved public safety communications and interoperability.
