1 BALDWIN PARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT DISTRICT POLICE OFFICER DEFINITION: As a peace officer of the State of California authorized by Section (b) of the California Penal code, and Education Code Sections et. Seq., is assigned to protect life and property in a large geographical area of the school district, responding to alarms and calls for assistance during all hours of the day and evening, and performs a variety of investigative and protective duties to provide police services in assigned areas in the district. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: A performs police work in the prevention, control, and investigation of crimes against District students, personnel, or facilities; the apprehension of suspects; and the protection of District property. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: General direction is provided by the Chief of Police or Sergeant. This position has no supervisory or lead responsibilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee assigned to the position. Incumbents may be required to perform any combination of these duties. All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with a disability. A. Commits to honoring BPUSD s Mission, Vision, Core Values, Commitments, and Indicators of Student Success. B. Patrol District grounds, facilities, parking lots, and adjacent areas in a radioequipped car or on foot. C. Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of State, County, and municipal laws. D. Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, burglaries, thefts, assaults, vehicle accidents, and other criminal and non-criminal incidents. 09/08/15 Action G-1

Make arrests as necessary; interview victim complainants and witnesses; interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence; testify and present evidence in court and administrative proceedings. F. May act as law enforcement liaison amongst District schools and offices and juvenile courts, probation office, and local law-enforcement agencies. G. Contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses. H. Prepare reports arrests made, activities performance, and unusual incidents observed. Use a variety of communications devices, including radios, telephones, and computers. Read statutes, legal transcripts, reports, interoffice memos, teletype messages, and training materials. I. Restrain and/or subdue individuals by use of control holds, restraining devices or baton techniques. J. Participate in physical activity such as lifting, carrying or dragging heavy objects, climbing or jumping over obstacles, running reasonable distances. Handle weapons and maintain proficiency in their use. Wear interior body armor for extended periods of time. K. Stop drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws when their acts interfere with the peaceful conduct of school activities; warn drivers against unlawful practices; issue citations and make arrests as necessary; direct traffic at special events, and other emergency or congested situations. L. Respond to burglary and fire alarms; check buildings for physical security. M. Maintain contact with school administrators regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve a good relationship with school administrators, students, and the general public. Participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention education and enforcement programs. N. Administer first aid and C.P.R. as necessary. O. 3 Baldwin Park Unified School District Page 3 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Rules and regulations pertaining to the protection of buildings and grounds belonging to the District, and California Penal Code, Education Code, and City and County ordinances relating to theft, burglary, arson, malicious mischief, trespass, other criminal matters, and law-enforcement activities. Investigative and law enforcement procedures and techniques. Applicable municipal and state codes including juvenile law. Appropriate officer safety precautions and procedures. Threat assessment processes. Traffic control procedures. School Police Department alarm system. Court procedures. Ability to Accurately and effectively represent BPUSD in all dealings and appearances. Adhere to all safety practices of the trade and workplace. Write complete, clear, and concise reports. Recognize and diligently handle personal and confidential information. Act ethically beyond reproach; deals quickly with breaches in ethics. Maintain focus and emotional control in stressful interpersonal situations and in unpleasant or extreme environments. Consider conflicting needs, options, and information and make the critical decisions. Observe accurately and remember faces, numbers, incidents, times and places. Collect and analyze information and make independent judgments. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, staff, law enforcement agencies and the public. 4 Baldwin Park Unified School District Page 4 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education Graduation from high school or GED is required. Completion of applicable criminal justice courses in an accredited college is preferred. Completion of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA P.O.S.T.) accredited academy is required. Out of-state applicants must meet P.O.S.T. requirements. Experience Approved basic training academy or its equivalent within the past three years or have been employed as a California Peace Officer within the past three years. Additional Requirements s will meet and maintain physical and psychological requirements of P.O.S.T. Possess a valid California driver s license, and be qualified to render basic First Aid and C.P.R. (valid certification required). WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and with explosives. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
