About the Position: Incumbent serves as a technical expert on water quality, limnology, freshwater biology and analytical chemistry, and a pollution investigation specialist for the District. Responsibilities include a diverse assortment of scientific and technical areas related to the interaction of water and water related matters and the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water resource projects. Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens Duties Assists in the planning of, directly participates in, and/or serves as a team leader of biological, physical and chemical water quality field investigations to gather information to understand and document interrelationships between aquatic ecosystems and various aspects of District's water resource projects. Requires the synthesis of a broad range of interdisciplinary sciences including: water quality; limnology; freshwater biology, including fisheries, phytoplankton, zooplankton, aquatic vascular plants, macroinvertebrates and aquatic ecology; hazardous and toxic waste chemistry and toxicity; groundwater quality; sediment quality; sedimentation; hydrology and hydraulics; water resource engineering; remote sensing technologies; data management; and meteorology. Evaluates, develops, revises and fine-tunes procedures for chemical, physical and biological sampling and analyses, insuring they are effective, current and accurate, keeping abreast of current taxonomic and analytical chemical literature and methodologies. Performs and/or prepares and manages contracts for chemical, physical and biological water quality analyses; trains lower level employees for these activities. Evaluates water quality, biological, meteorological, hydrologic, hydraulic and limnologic data and interrelations and applies results to various aspects of the planning, design, construction and operation of the District's water resource projects.

4 Page 4 of 6 Collects water quality data and conducts water quality surveys of the District's system of 16 multi-purpose and flood risk reduction reservoirs, their watersheds, and downstream regulated river reached; 23 navigation dams; and more than 40 local flood protection projects. Participates in the planning, conducting and interpretive reporting on physical, chemical and biological investigations and studies in connection with water quality in the Pittsburgh Engineer District Travel Required Occasional Travel Business Travel up to 25% of time Relocation Authorized Yes Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint TravelRegulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
