CD - Suicide Awareness and Prevention Tools Stock # -0500LP Publication # Revised: January 2011 This CD is considered the basic "toolbox" and in addition to the OPNAV A instruction includes all of the basic materials necessary to establish and maintain the Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program for your command. The toolbox includes templates for: Response Plan for Distressed Callers and Local Emergency Numbers. Command Suicide Prevention/Crisis Response Checklist, Guidance for Developing a Crisis Response Plan A comprehensive list of Suicide Awareness and Prevention Resources Specific instructions on how to access an online DoDSER in the event of a suicide attempt or a completed Suicide. In addition to the above, the CD includes both the Front Line Supervisors Training (FLST) Manual and PowerPoint presentation. The FLST is a hour train the trainer program designed for any leadership level and can be taught by any motivated instructor. The program provides in-depth training on recognizing and assisting Sailors in distress as well as the when, where and how to initiate appropriate interventions. Various products to include award winning suicide prevention posters and tri-folds as well as Operational Stress Control products available free of charge through the National Logistics Library can be viewed on the CD. 2. CD - Navy Suicide Prevention Peer to Peer Stock # -0500LP Publication # This CD contains both the Peer to Peer training manual as well as the Peer to Peer PowerPoint presentation. Peer to Peer is a 90 minute train the trainer program which can be taught by any motivated instructor. The program is designed for junior enlisted and focuses on assisting junior enlisted Sailors who may be suffering from emotional distress resulting from a variety of life problems. CD also contains a 4 minute Good Charlotte music video which includes video clips from suicide survivors which is suitable for general audiences.

Navy Suicide Prevention Videos Stock # -0500LP Publication # *See Important Note below. *"After a Suicide: Helping Those Left Behind" Video includes many of the same clips included on CD # 3 but is limited to members of a submarine crew who experienced the suicide of a shipmate. It is a good tool to use for Postvention training and tells the story of how one command handled the aftermath of a suicide. "Overcoming a Suicidal Crisis: One Family's Insights for Care Providers" Video includes many of the same clips included on CD # 3 but is limited to the one story of the Chaplain who experienced thoughts of suicide following a personal traumatic training crisis. This video is intended for use for training of care providers not a general audience. IMPORTANT NOTE: CD 3 and 4 are not intended to be used as stand-alone training tools. Both CDs feature real life suicide survivors and are very powerful with the potential to trigger strong emotional response for the audience. Videos are to be used in training scenarios where there is a live facilitator to introduce the content. It is also strongly recommended that there be a vibe watcher in the audience (such as a chaplain) who is available to assist anyone in need of personal support.
