AMC s unique fire and survival training facilities, together with the dedicated Emergency Response Group staff enabled AMCS to find solutions outside the box to cope with industry demand for training to meet the requirements of the Manila Amendment to the STCW Code, which has resulted in more than 2500 participants completing Refresher training well ahead of the implementation date. In addition, a range of online training options have been developed, which have been embraced by industry, both nationally and internationally. 4 SUMMARY OF TRAINING AMCS offers an extensive suite of maritime related short courses. The courses scheduled within this programme will represent only around half of the programme actually delivered by AMCS in 2017, as many more courses will be provided based on demand by clients often at short notice due to changes in work schedules and crewing arrangements. Many courses will also be delivered on client premises, providing a more cost effective and timely solution to client needs. 5 GENERAL INFORMATION Flexible Delivery Where there is sufficient number of participants, many short courses can be conducted on demand, on client premises, interstate and internationally. Please contact if you would like to discuss this option further. Course Location Courses are conducted at the Australian Maritime College, Newnham Drive in Launceston, Tasmania. Participants are recommended to fly into Launceston Airport. Complimentary car parking is provided on campus in areas designated to AMCS participants and clients. Course Registration Course registrations can be made via or online at The online registration provides a secure online transmission of credit card details. Acknowledgement of registration will be provided by return . Confirmation of registration is provided upon payment of the course fees, and subject to AMCS registration terms. On Campus Accommodation On-campus accommodation is available at Norfolk Hall and can be reserved at registration. All meals are available in the AMC Cafeteria at economical prices Rate: $95 per person per night bed only. Registration Terms To secure course registration, payment of 50% of the course fee is required. Cancellations up to 15 working days prior to the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 15 working days will be subject to 100% cancellation fee. AMCS reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient registrations have been received by seven days from commencement of course. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full. Please ensure flight bookings are made on a fully refundable basis. Maritime Training Package The University of Tasmania, trading as the Australian Maritime College (AMC), is a registered Training Organisation and has a partnership agreement with AMC Search Ltd (AMCS). This enables AMC to award Statements of Attainment (subject to students holding a Unique Student Identifier* number) within its scope of registration where short courses administered by AMCS have been deemed equivalent to units of competency with the Maritime Training Package. *Unique Student Identifier (USI): All students undertaking nationally recognised training are required to have an Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is linked to the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Data Collection, and this means an individual s nationally recognised training and qualifications gained anywhere in Australia, from different training organisations, will be kept all together. Students have the option to directly apply for a USI at or the RTO upon receiving approval from the student can apply on their behalf. Only students who have provided or been issued with a USI can be issued a qualification or statement of attainment. If students do not have a USI no qualification or statement can be issued. 7 COURSES Bridge Resource Management Bridge Resource Management (BRM) is ideal for deck and engineering officers together with maritime pilots and shore based personnel who have interaction with the shipping environment. The objective is to ensure that sound resource management practices underpin everyday operations. Approval: AMSA approved, in accordance with Marine Order 71 (Masters and Deck Officers) 2014 STCW Code Section A-VIII/2, Part 3 and 4, paragraphs February 2 March August December days $2,100 GST exempt Bulk Carrier Operations The objective of this course is to provide participants with sufficient knowledge of the correct procedures in the cargo handling operation of a bulk carrier. The aim of the ship officer, the stevedore and the cargo owners are the same, to get the cargo in or out of the ship in the quickest possible time, but there the similarity ends. This course provides participants with an understanding of the operational requirements of a bulk carrier during its brief port call and how to avoid delays through good communications with the vessel. 8 Certificate of Competency Continued Competence Refresher Training The Certificate of Competency (CoC) Continued Competence Refresher Training is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Certificate of Competency (Master, Deck and Engineer Officers) and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses, Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC) and Advanced Fire Fighting are covered. Note: All continued competence refresher courses are valid for up to 5 years and may be used once for revalidation purposes. If the required sea service is not held, CoC holders must complete the CoC Revalidation programme (refer to page 8). 9 Certificate of Competency (Master, Deck and Engineer Officers) Revalidation The Certificate of Competency (CoC) revalidation course is designed for Masters, Deck and Engineer Officers who do not hold the qualifying sea service and therefore need to undertake the full Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC), Advanced Fire Fighting and Security Awareness Training (SAT) courses in order to demonstrate continued competence. The course is designed in three parts, A, B and C. Part A is common to Masters/Deck and Engineer Officers, Part B is solely for Masters/Deck Officers and Part C for Engineer Officers. Part C is not offered by AMCS. 10 Certificate of Proficiency Rating Continued Competence Refresher Training The Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) Rating Continued Competence Refresher Training is designed for holders of an AMSA Certificate of Proficiency as Rating (Integrated Rating, Able Seaman, Deck Rating or Engine Room Rating) and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats. Note: All continued competence refresher courses are valid for up to 5 years and may be used once for revalidation purposes. If the required sea service is not held, then Ratings must complete the FULL STCW short courses in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats. 11 Certificate of Proficiency Rating Revalidation The Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) Rating revalidation course is designed for Seafarers who do not hold the qualifying sea service and therefore need to undertake the full STCW short courses in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats in order to demonstrate continued competence. Approval: AMSA approved 6 15 February 2017* Refer to Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft pages for further dates 8 days $3,715 GST exempt *Limited places available on this course Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (CPSC) is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform survival craft operations as required during shipboard emergency response situations. Entry Prerequisite: Please note the following pre-requisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided at enrolment point of the following: - AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training; or - Equivalent survival training (assessed on an individual basis). Certificate Prerequisite: To be eligible for the issue of an AMSA approved certificate, participants must supply evidence of 6 months sea service. 12 Certificate of Safety Training An AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training (CoST) is the mandatory minimum requirement in order to serve on board vessels in international waters. The Certificate of Safety Training consists of the following short courses: Elementary First Aid (EFA) - 2 days Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) - 3 days Personal Survival Techniques (PST) - 2 days Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) 2 days Security Awareness Training (SAT) - online Prerequisite: Nil Approval: AMSA approved, in accordance with Marine Order 70 STCW Code Section A-V1/1, Tables A-VI/1-3, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/1-4, A-VI/1-1 and Section A-VI/6, Table A-VI/ February 2017* June 2017* 9 days plus completion of the online Security Awareness Training $2,250 GST exempt * As this course is run as part of a full time AMC course, positions are limited and course dates may be subject to change SHORT COURSE PROGRAMME

13 Certificate of Safety Training Continued Competence Refresher Training The Certificate of Safety Training (CoST) Continued Competence Refresher Training is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Certificate of Safety Training and meets the mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Fighting continued competency requirements for current Seafarers with qualifying sea service. The course covers the relevant refresher competencies from the STCW short courses Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. Note: All continued competence refresher courses are valid for up to 5 years and may be used once for revalidation purposes. If the required sea service is not held, holders of a Certificate of Safety Training must complete the FULL STCW short courses in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Personal Survival Techniques. 14 Chief Integrated Rating The Chief Integrated Rating (CIR) course incorporates an Advanced Fire Fighting course, and successful participants are issued AMSA approved Chief Integrated Ratings and Advanced Fire Fighting Certificates. Entry Prerequisite: Please note the following pre-requisite is for entry onto the course and evidence must be provided at enrolment point of the following: - AMSA issued Integrated Rating Certificate of Proficiency. 15 Chief Integrated Rating Revalidation The Chief Integrated Rating (CIR) revalidation course is designed for holders of an AMSA issued Chief Integrated Rating Certificate who do not hold the qualifying sea service and therefore need to undertake the full STCW short courses in Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (CPSC) and Advanced Fire Fighting in order to demonstrate continued competence. Approval: AMSA approved 2 10 February August 1 September April October May December July days $4,115 GST exempt Confined Space Entry Specifically designed to suit the maritime industry, this course will develop the knowledge and skill base of participants. Primarily focusing on the regulatory and legislative framework applicable to the high risk work environment of confined space operations, knowledge and skill development is further supported through participants practically applying risk mitigation measures. 16 Contribute to Safe Cargo Operations on Offshore Support Vessels MARA007 (online) Contribute to Safe Cargo Operations on Offshore Support Vessels covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake a range of offshore activities on board an offshore support vessel. The unit applies to Integrated Ratings working in the offshore maritime industry assigned to specific activities and responsibilities, and includes deck preparation, transfer of deck cargoes, bulk cargo operations and operations with deck equipment within the limits of responsibility of an integrated rating and under the direction of the officer in charge or Master. The unit is offered in online mode, utilising online documents and 2D and 3D scenarios (emodlets ) and a workplace practical assessment. Upon successful completion, candidates will be issued: MARA007 Contribute to safe cargo operations on offshore support vessels Approval: MARA007 is a nationally recognised unit under the Australian Maritime College (RTO ID 60131) and the training outcomes are listed on Approximately 10 hours online $980 GST exempt Crisis Management and Human Behaviour for non Ro-Ro Passenger Ships Crisis Management and Human Behaviour training provides participants with the skills to organise shipboard emergency procedures, optimise the use of resources, control response to emergencies, control passengers and other personnel during emergency situations, establish and maintain effective communications. This course covers minimum standard of competence for Masters, Chief Engineer Officers, Chief Mates, Second Engineer Officers and any other person having responsibility for the safety of passengers in emergency situations. Approval: AMSA approved, in accordance with Marine Order 70 STCW Code Section A-V/2, paragraph 3, Table A-V/2.
