Contrast The Soviet Union was a communist country Soviet Union was trying to expand communism Cold War: Fought with words, money, and the threat of weapons United Nations: Formed in 1945 because many nations wanted to promote world peace. The Marshall Plan: US will provide food, shelter, materials to help European countries rebuild and stand up to communism Over $13,000,000,000

Why do you think government leaders use propaganda, especially in times of war? Germany Divided: West Germany: democratic East Germany: communist Berlin Airlift Airplanes flew into Berlin with food and fuel until May 1949 when the Soviet Union lifted the blockade. Berlin Wall a wall around West Berlin to prevent people from East Berlin from escaping. The Korean War North Korea - communist South Korea - did not want to be communist America joined to help. The war lasted until North Korea remained communist and South Korea remained democratic.

Cuban Missile Crisis Fidel Castro became the dictator of Cuba Soviets send nuclear weapons to Cuba o Cuba is only 90 miles from the coast of Florida.
