4 Background of the Report This report is being written in response to the services of Balochistan boy scouts carried out in recent floods which struck eastern Balochistan districts of in the districts of Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi. The floods have destroyed several villages in the districts of Barkhan, Kohlu and Sibi. All the villages of the Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi districts were completely destroyed by recent floods. Approximately 20,000,000 people have been left homeless in the floods in the country. The most urgent needs of the survivors are shelter, clean drinking water, cooked food items, clothing and emergency medical assistance. Floods have destroyed homes, crops and live stocks in the districts of Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi. People in Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi districts lack safe drinking water. People have become vulnerable to diarrhea, cholera and skin diseases due to unclean water and poor sanitation. The health workers have warned that deadly diseases are spreading. The people affected by floods are still waiting for help after the disaster and children and women are dying. 5 Scouts Services The services of Balochistan boy scouts started right after the recent floods which struck various parts of eastern Balochistan namely the districts of Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi. After initial survey scouts started working in worst affected areas, rescuing the victims and providing relief to the sufferers of floods. BBSA volunteers distributed cooked food to the people affected by the floods. Relief Camps for Flood Victims BBSA has set up a relief camp at its headquarters for victims of floods from its own resources. More than 300 people affected by floods were settled in 23 tents at the camp site. They have been provided blankets, mattress, bath buckets, lighting for night time, clean water, tea, sugar, milk, wheat flour, salt, pepper, cooking oil, ghee, pulses and rice including cooking facilities such as gas stove and cooking utensils. BBSA Headquarters provided a doctor who voluntarily checked sick persons and gave them medicine free of cost. Medicine is needed if someone gets sick. Scouts established a stall for collecting goods and money for people affected by floods. Scouts have set up relief camps at Government Special High School, Government Central High School and Government High School Shaheed Shafiq Ahmed Khan where people affected by floods were settled in tents. Camps for victims of recent floods have been established outside all the high schools in Quetta in order to collect donation from public. Scouts are collecting money, food items, clothing and other items for victims of floods. Items collected from high school camps are being distributed to victims of floods on daily basis. Scouts are taking care of victims of floods from their own resources. Scouts are rendering their services at camps established at Sibi, Dhadar, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Dasht and Quetta. They are helping army and frontier corps in distributing food and non food items in those camps. Establishment of Child Friendly Space Scouts at BBSA Headquarters have setup a child friendly space for children near the relief camp. Children were given luddo, football, cricket wickets, bat and ball for playing by UNICEF. This will help children forget the calamity they have gone through.
