1 2010 Annual Report to Members MCA The Professional Association For ALL Marines Study Write Join the Dialogue! T he Marine Corps Association Board of Governors, the Board of Directors of the Marine Corps Association Foundation, and the MCA management team are pleased to present the 2010 Annual Report to the membership. The financial health of the MCA continues to grow following a successful year in Our improved merchandizing strategy and focused effort on improving our inventory control and management methods is paying off in reduced costs, improved inventory performance, and increased revenue which has been applied to the expansion of our professional development programs. In May we released our redesigned websites. This comprehensive effort produced a new look and a new content management system that allows web visitors easier movement within our sites as well as access to expanded content. The result has been a marked increase in the number and duration of website visits and in e-commerce volume. Revamping our Facebook page that had roughly 100 friends in June, we now have over 20,000 active Facebook friends. These efforts have increased awareness of the MCA s mission, generated new memberships, and increased revenue vital to expanding programs that support our great Marines. Thank you for your membership. Your leadership and influence is key to the growth of this important organization that is committed to the development and recognition of Marine excellence. 3 publishing Leatherneck Readership 6% 6% 17% 37% % Gazette continues to be the professional journal that Marines rely on to enhance their professional skills, stay informed on tactical innovations and plans and policies. It keeps veteran Marines connected to and informed about the Corps. It still is the premier forum in which to debate the issues that affect our Corps today and tomorrow. Leatherneck Magazine of the Marines maintains its focus on telling the Marine Corps story yesterday, today and tomorrow. Keep up to date on current operations, plus learn more of the Marine Corps rich history in Leatherneck. Both the professional journal the Marine Corps Gazette and Leatherneck are available in a paper and digital edition. The digital edition contains enhanced content not available in print. All members of the Association, whether they receive a print publication or not, have access to the digital editions via the websites of both Gazette and Leatherneck. And, you can use the share feature in your digital edition to forward any article to those associates who may have an interest. 4 MCA RETAIL M embers receive member value pricing at The Marine Shop in Quantico and at our store at Camp Lejeune as well as online at Profits derived from MCA retail operations provide support for the many MCA programs that benefit Marines including the Marine Excellence Awards and Commander s Unit Libraries Highlights The Marine Shop at Quantico E-commerce Sales increased by 119% year-over-year Online Customers more than doubled from 2009 MCA Bookstore at Camp Lejeune Overall Sales increased by 11% Overall Customers increased by 9% A ANNUAL REPORT MARINE CORPS ASSOCIAT I O N
5 marine corps association Foundation M CAF s first full year in operation was a success. The programs that performed best were those we had offered in previous years including the calendar, label, note pad, and the new ornaments which were received very well. We had 23,298 donors who provided 44,204 total donations with many of our donors making more than one donation. Our donations totaled $829,938 for an average gift of $18.78 per donation. GySgt Johnson Memorial Ammo Tech Marine of the Year Award In addition to our C4 Awards Dinner, the Ground Awards Dinner, the Ground Logistics Awards Dinner, the MCCDC Dinners, and the MCAF Annual Dinner, MCAF hosted the first Ammo Tech Awards on 1 September 2010 and presented the NCO of the Year Award for Professional Excellence and the Marine of the Year Award for Superior Achievement. Two hundred Marines attended that event. In 2011, we will be adding the Marine Corps Intelligence Awards on 15 September. We re proud of our recognition programs for Marine Excellence. Hulbert Award for Outstanding Leadership by a Marine Gunner 1stLt Travis Manion Memorial Marine Corps Officer Logistician of the Year Award 2010 Highlights Number of Libraries Provided in 2010: 201 Number of Awards Provided in 2010: 9,701 with 8,153 Marines receiving awards ANNUAL REPORT A5
6 Web Development M CA continued to enhance its information and services on the Web. Our websites are more robust, easier to navigate, and encourage comments and contributions from our members/visitors. We have regular daily, weekly and monthly content Corps Daily News, News & Announcements, Events, Multimedia and more so visit regularly to stay in touch!
