Situation. During the 2017 USNA Summer Training Period, the Marine Detachment will conduct three blocks of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Summer Training Program. This program provides two two-week fleet immersion experiences for midshipmen with a units of the operating forces. The program serves as a recruiting tool for midshipmen interested in service-selecting the Marine Corps. 2. Mission. The mission of the MAGTF Summer Training Program is to recruit midshipmen by exposing them to Marine Corps operational forces and the responsibilities of company grade officers so that they may further assess the Marine Corps as their service choice. 3. Execution. a. Concept of Operations. Midshipmen will be assigned to Marine units based in MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River, NC during blocks 1, 2, and 3. Midshipmen will be assigned to Marine units based in MCB Camp Pendleton and MCAS Miramar, CA during block 3. Midshipmen will spend two weeks at a CGE, ACE, or LCE command then rotate to another component command of the MAGTF for an additional two weeks. While assigned, Midshipmen should observe and experience the day to day duties and responsibilities of company grade officers. B. Coordinating Instructions. (MLOs) (1) Midshipmen Liaison Officers. for MAGTF are assigned by the USNA Midshipmen Liaison Officers Marine Detachment for each

MLOs will receive midshipmen at the training locations, coordinate individual equipment issue, and coordinate link-up with the fleet sponsors. Following handoff to sponsors, MLOs will act as the conduit for any matters regarding midshipmen or their sponsors requiring communication to USNA. (2) Sponsors. Units are tasked by respective MEFs to provide company-grade officers to act as midshipmen sponsors. These sponsors will be responsible for the mentorship and accountability of midshipmen, as well as integrating them into unit operations. (3) Cruise Guide. The checklists in the Cruise Guide represent a minimum level of training to be accomplished during MAGTF summer training, and all midshipmen are expected to exercise initiative to exceed these standards and achieve a high degree of awareness of their unit's mission, its role in the MAGTF, and how the subordinate sections of the unit contribute to mission accomplishment. Midshipmen, not their sponsors, are responsible for completion of the Cruise Guide checklists. Assistance from sponsors may be required to make contact with personnel or sections necessary for completion of the checklists. Cruise Guides will be reviewed and discussed with company leadership upon return to USNA. In the event that the Cruise Guide is lost, an electronic copy is available for download at Reference (a). Tasks unable to be accomplished during the training block can be listed and commented on by the sponsor in a blank area of the Cruise Guide. 4. Administrative and Logistics. a. Transportation. (1) Block 1. Midshipmen assigned to MAGTF Block 1 will depart from USNA by bus at 0400 on 30 May 17 from the Mid Store parking lot. The bus will proceed direct to Camp Lejeune for gear issue and handoff to sponsors. Midshipmen will depart Camp Lejeune by bus at 1200 on 23 June to return to USNA. (2) Block 2. Midshipmen assigned to MAGTF Block 2 will depart from USNA by bus at 0400 on 26 Jun 17 from the Mid Store parking lot. The bus will proceed direct to Camp Lejeune for gear issue and handoff to sponsors. Midshipmen will depart Camp Lejeune by bus at 1200 on 21 July to return to USNA.

3 (3) Block 3 East. Midshipmen assigned to MAGTF Block 3 East will depart from USNA by bus at 0400 on 24 Jun 17 from the Mid Store parking lot. The bus will proceed direct to Carrp Lejeune for gear issue and handoff to sponsors. Midshipmen will depart Camp Lejeune by bus at 0800 on 16 Aug to return to USNA. (4) Block 3 West. Midshipmen assigned to MAGTF Block 3 West will depart from USNA by bus at TBD from the Mid Store parking lot. The bus will proceed direct to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)for flights to San Diego International Airport (SAN). On arrival at SAN, midshipmen will collect their baggage and muster at the United Services Organization (USO). The MLO will confirm accountability and transport midshipmen to Camp Pendleton. Midshipmen will return to SAN by bus to return to USNA NLT 1800 on 16 Aug. Detailed flight information and bus schedule will be passed when available. b. Billeting. Host units will provide billeting for MAGTF midshipmen at no cost. If billeted in barracks, all applicable unit SOPs regarding cleanliness, gear storage, liberty hours, etc will apply to midshipmen unless specifically addressed by the sponsor. For billeting at USNA before or after the training block, contact the Naval Academy Summer Programs office. c. Chow. Midshipmen will receive orders directing use of the government facilities for all meals. Food service units will receive rosters of MAGTF midshipmen so that they can use local chow hall facilities at no cost. On travel days to and from training, midshipmen training on the east coast will receive box chow and proportional per diem. Midshipmen training on the west coast will receive proportional per diem and are expected to provide or source their own meals. d. Equipment. (1) Individual Gear. Midshipmen will receive a partial issue of standard Marine Corps individual gear, including body armor, load-bearing equipment, and sleep system. Midshipmen are personally and financially responsible for returning all gear at completion of the training block. (2) Personal Gear. Midshipmen will report for MAGTF with the items listed in the PROTRAMID Marine Week column of Reference (b) and

4 appropriate civilian attire in accordance with Reference (c). Exceptions to the gear list: ziplock bags and Camelbak are not required as waterproof bags and hydration system will be issued. Fixed blade knives are not authorized in barracks for many units. Midshipmen will wear USNA blue rim PT gear for organized unit PT but may wear civilian PT gear for individual PT in accordance with unit SOP. Since the Marine Corps definition of appropriate civilian attire for officers is along the lines of the CD & T Protocol and Etiquette Program's definition of casual wear, midshipmen should bring at least two collared shirts and will wear a belt on all trousers or shorts with belt loops. If discrepancies arise, midshipmen are directed to follow local and unit SOP regarding specifics of appropriate civilian attire. e. Expectations of Midshipmen. (1) MAGTF midshipmen represent USNA at all times during the training block, to include transportation periods. Marine Corps bases are a very different environment from USNA, and you are expected to conform to Marine standards of behavior. You may be the first/only USNA midshipman that a Marine interacts with. Conduct yourselves accordingly. Treat enlisted personnel with respect and professionalism. Salute and greet officers when you are covered regardless of whether or not they are in uniform. Address all Marines and midshipmen by their rank and last name, or sir or ma'am for officers. (2) Liberty may be granted by sponsors in accordance with unit SOP. Keep the sponsor informed of your plans and contact them if any problems arise. 5. Command and Signal. a. In Transit. Issues requiring changes to commercial air flights will be resolved through SATO. Routine issues encountered in transit during normal working hours should be handled via the midshipman's company chain of command. Outside of normal working hours, the Summer Training Duty Officer is responsible for urgent coordination of midshipman travel and accountability, communication with fleet units, and overall execution of the Summer Training Program. Once at the training site, midshipmen should contact the MAGTF MLO regarding transportation and coordination requirements.

5 b. Training Block. The first point of contact for midshipmen during the MAGTF training block will be the unit sponsor. The MLOs will coordinate movement of midshipmen or any schedule adjustments with the sponsors or USNA. c. MLO Reporting Procedures.
