(Approved, 30 Jun 1945) EMBLEM SIGNIFICANCE MOTTO NICKNAME OPERATIONS Mobility and adaptability characterize the winged history of the 92nd Fighter Bomber Squadron, latest unit to supplement the military aggregation established at RAF Station Mansion. Although not a member of the 406th Fighter Interceptor Wing, the 92nd was brought in to occupy facilities vacated by the 512th Fighter Day Squadron. The 92nd is a part of the 81st Fighter Bomber Wing at Bentwaters, and was stationed at Shepherds Grove since coming overseas, for the second time in September The Squadron was originally activated at Tallahassee, Florida in 1943 and made its first move across the Atlantic to the UK. Flying P-39 aircraft, the 92nd participated in the longest overwater flight on record in single engined airplanes when it advanced en mass from the UK to North Africa. From there it fought its way through Sicily to Anzio. Next, it was transferred to the China- Burma-India theater of operations, and into China in 1944 where, flying P-38 and P-40 fighter planes, it lent direct support to Chinese ground forces against the Japanese invading armies. At war's end the 92nd, still in China, was deactivated and returned to the United States. But in May, 1946, in line with the US reactivation program of ' name' squadrons, the 92nd was reformed and called to active service, this time in the territory of Hawaii. The 92nd held an important position in the Western Air Defence Command while in the States, and with the outbreak of hostilities in Korea in June, 1950, it was alerted to stand by at Paine Field, Everett, Wash.

7 Since crossing the Atlantic for the second time in its history, when it moved-to Shepherds Grove in 1951 and incidentally setting another record for accomplishing the long overwater hop in single engined aircraft, this time in F-86A jets the squadron has participated in numerous exercises together with Royal Air Force elements. Still displaying their ability for really swift action, when receiving ojders to transfer to Fursten-feldbruck A.B., Germany, ofl an alert, the 92nd Squadron completed the move in 24 hours. In June, 1954, the Squadron checked-in their flight-aweary F-86A Sabres for the latest and best of fighter bombers, the aptly-named F-84F Thundersteak. Following the transition the 92nd's mission was re-designated from Fighter Interceptor to Fighter Bomber in November, The move from Shepherds Grove to Mansion took place in March, 1955, requiring less than one day in which to transfer the entire squadron. Change of command followed in June when Lt.- Colonel Richard E. Willsie took over from Lt.-Colonel James A. Carlyle. COMBAT-READY and equipped with deadly Voodoo fighters is the Bentwaters-based 92nd Tactical Fighter Squadron. The squadron, whose parent unit is the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing, is commanded by Lt. Col. Richard E. Willsie. With a history closely paralleling that of its sister squadron, the 92nd was an integral part of the 81st Pursuit Group during World War I. The second World War found the squadron flying in support of such ground actions as Post Lyautey and Kasserine Pass in the North African campaign and the Salerno and Anzio actions in Italy. Moving to the China-Burma-India theater, the 92nd with its counterparts in the wing was assigned the task of protecting the first B-29 bases located at Cheng-tu, China. Deactivated in 1945, the squadron was brought back to life as a unit of the 81st Fighter Group (single engine) in 1946 at Oahu, Hawaii. After a move to Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, the squadron entered the jet age via the F-80 and then moved with its parent unit to Larson AFB, Washington. In 1951 the 92nd joined the other squadrons of the wing in a mass PCS to England. Based at Shepherds Grove until April, 1955, when it moved to RAF Manston, Kent, the squadron transferred to Bentwaters in April, The squadron numbers among its pilots Lt. Col. Adrian Drew, holder of the 1,206 m.p.h. speed record set in the F-101 in The 92nd Information Warfare Aggressor Squadron and guests gathered at Kelly USA to celebrate their first anniversary since activating Nov. 1, The aggressors are one of five squadrons in the 318th Information Operations Group, operating under the Air Force Information Warfare Center at Lackland AFB, Texas. After a barbecue lunch with all of the trimmings, the squadron assembled for the opening of an Air Force Museum time capsule left by the 92nd Tactical Fighter Squadron of RAF Bentwaters, England. The 92nd "Skulls" flew the A-10 Thunderbolt II until they deactivated in 1993.

8 "The anniversary was a chance for all of us, 92nd members and our families, to come together and celebrate how far we've come," Lt. Col. Sergio Muniz, 92nd commander said. The 92nd was first activated in 1946 as the 92nd Fighter Squadron (JET) in the territory of Hawaii. Subsequent designations of the squadron include 92nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron and 92nd Fighter Bomber Squadron. As part of the 81st Fighter Group (JET), the 92nd was transferred from Wheeler Field, Hawaii, to Kirtland AFB, N.M.; then to Larsen AFB, Washington; finally arriving in England at RAF Station Shepherds Grove. Another move in 1955 brought the squadron to RAF Manston. In 1958, the 92nd moved to RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk, where the wing had been headquartered since its arrival in England in Originally flying F-84, the squadron completed conversion to the F-101 Voodoo in On July 8, 1958 the squadron was re-designated the 92nd Tactical Fighter Squadron brought about the conversion from the F-101 to the mighty F-4C, which were flown until 1973 when conversion to the F-4D was completed. The 92nd became the first operational A-10 squadron in Europe in The 92nd's current mission is to lead the Air Force in assessing vulnerabilities on computer networks to protect information systems from attack. The squadron consists of four flights-the Network Operations Flight, the Systems Vulnerability Flight, the Aggressor Operations Flight and the Counter-Information Programs Flight. "The fact that the 92nd has shifted from a fighter squadron to an information warfare squadron is an indication of where wars are headed," Lt. Col. Jerry Cummin, operations officer, said. The anniversary celebration brought to life memories of the past, and hopes for the future of this squadron rich in history. 92nd Tactical Fighter Squadron (Skulls) The 92nd TFS became USAFE's first operational A-10 squadron in January, 1979, after converting from F-4Ds in July, The 92nd inactivated in March, The squadron band was yellow, later it was changed to yellow with white borders, and then adding a black skull. The 92nd TFS added the white Indian head to its yellow tail stripe, was photographed at Nellis AFB on July at Nellis AFB , with the 92nd TFS yellow tail stripe, photographed shortly after converting to A-1 Os in July of 1978, wears a full color USAFE insignia.

9 As seen on , the 92nd TFS replaced the white Indian head with black skull on the squadrons yellow tail stripe carried a full color USAFE insignia when photographed at RAF Bentwaters in January nd F-I Squadron: assigned 1 Jan 51 at Larson AFB, WA, as the 81st F-I Wing; flying F-86A acft; transferred PCS with 81st F-I Wing to 3AF, Suffolk, England, 22 Aug , assigned to the 92nd TFS, carried full color 81st TFW patch and outlined WR tail code with a yellow/black tail stripe when photographs at DM AFB on September 25,1983. Historical Division Office of Information USAFE. 15 Jan 1965 The last unit of the year was the 92d Fighter Squadron from Manston, England, which arrived at Wheelus on 30 November 1951 and departed for home on 19 December, The first for 1952 was the 53d Fighter-Bomber Squadron which arrived on approximately 15 Jan 1952 This unit was, in turn, replaced on 25 Feb by the 23d Fighter-Bomber Squadron, which brought with it approximately 27 officers, 150 airmen, 25 F-84's and two B-26 target tow aircraft. The 23d was at Wheelus primarily for transition training. In August, 1978, the 333rd TFTS began training A-10 pilots for the 81 st TFW, which was due to accept its first European based A-1 Os in January, Under the program name Ready Thunder, the 92nd TFS Avengers began transition from the F-4D to the A-10. Also in August the 354th TFW became the first fully combat-ready A-10 wing in the Air Force. The conversion of the 354th, based at Myrtle Beach AFB, South Carolina, from the A-7D to the A-10 had taken 13 months. The first European based A-10 Squadron, the 92nd TFS, accepted its aircraft in January, 1979 at RAF Bentwaters Woodbridge, U.K. The Squadron redeployed some of the airplanes immediately to their forward operating location (FOL) at Sembach AB, Germany, to participate in the U.S. Army Field Training Exercise CERTAIN SENTINEL. They were joined by six more A-10s flown in from the 354th TFW, at Myrtle Beach. 92 TFS SKULLS WR A X281 YELLOW BAND WHITE INDIAN HEAD BLACK SKULL ON YELLOW STRIPE F-86A FIS 81FIG Kirtland AFB, NM LACMF Stuart, William D.
