1 HEDDLU DE CYMRU SOUTH WALES POLICE THE POLICE OF SOUTH WALES AND THE GREAT WAR ROLL OF HONOUR LED BY IWM PAUSE REFLECT REMEMBER
2 During the First World War hundreds of police officers from South Wales Police s predecessor forces of Glamorgan, Cardiff, Swansea, Merthyr and Neath served in the armed forces. As part of our First World War Project we have identified 93 who died as a result of the War. The majority of them are remembered on the Glamorgan Police War Memorial at Police Headquarters in Bridgend, the Cardiff City Police Memorial Plaque in the Cardiff Bay Police Station, the Swansea Borough Police Memorial in the Central Police Station in Swansea and the Merthyr Borough Police Memorial in the Merthyr Police Station. There is also a Glamorgan Constabulary Roll of Honour in the Heritage Centre at Police Headquarters. However, we now take the opportunity, informed by our research, to present the following combined Roll of Honour which brings together brief details of each of those who died from the Glamorgan, Cardiff, Swansea and Merthyr forces (there appear to have been none from the Neath Police). Gareth Madge OBE Chair First World War Project Group Further information on the individuals concerned can be found in the commemorative booklets which we have produced and which can be accessed via: and WE REMEMBER WITH PRIDE ALL THOSE WHOSE NAMES APPEAR IN THE ROLL OF HONOUR LED BY IWM PAUSE REFLECT 2 REMEMBER
