NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 6, Transferred to General Fund $ 6, June is upon us and the desert heat is ramping up so remember to stop by on your travels around town and cool off with some cool air and a cold beverage or two! June marks the time of year that new officers will be taking over to start their term of hard work and volunteering to make this Post continue to shine. I hope that everyone supports all of our new officers. Special congratulations to our new commander Steve Sperl, our new Auxiliary President, Shelley Merritt and our new SAL Commander Joe Roberts! Also congratulations to our new Riders President Don Bracken. We are very fortunate to have all of our groups here at Post #36 that remain very active. I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year to continue to achieve our goals. The new Officer Installation ceremony is slated for Saturday June 10 th at 5:00 pm. Dinner will follow and all members and guests are most certainly welcome to this celebration. A very big thank you goes out to outgoing Commander John Richardson for the awesome job he did for the past year! Special thanks also go out to SAL Commander Dave McKee for all of his hard work for the past 7 years, and also outgoing Aux. President Alyssa Neal. All of the officers deserve a big round of applause for their service! Please mark your calendars for Wednesday June 14 th at 6:00pm. That date marks Flag Day and we have our annual flag burning ceremony. It will be held in the front parking lot and we will have an Honor Guard contingent present to perform as well as the Navy Sea Cadets. Please join us for this most sacred ceremony. It is very nice to know that a great many people in our society know the proper way to dispose of our national flag. We literally take in thousands of flags here at this Post every year and a huge thanks go out to Adair Funeral home who so gratuitously donate their crematory services to properly dispose of our national symbol. Special thanks go out to Don Detberner for the donation of a 55 screen TV. Thank you very much Don! As always, many thanks go out to so many people that do so many things to help make this Post function. I for one, am proud to be a part of this organization because of you all. I have had the amazing privilege of being your unit president this past year, and what an amazing experience it has been! I have learned so much about this organization and what the auxiliary does for the greater good. I want to thank all my officers, without them this year would not have happened. All of us here at the post worked together and really grew together as a family. We raised a good amount of money this year for our different charities, Girls State and Fisher House just to name a couple. I believe Kathleen would have been proud. I wish she could be here to see it. This post and all the members here have been my family for many years and without their support it would not have been a success. It has been an honor to serve as your unit President and to be able to work so closely with the Riders, SAL and Legion. Debbie was amazing to work with and really helped me and our unit in the kitchen. It truly has been awesome. We have new officers coming in this month Shelley Merritt is your newly elected Auxiliary President, she has been here a lot of years and I have no doubt in my mind she is going to rock this year! I can t wait to see what this year brings. Remember we would not exist without all the hard working volunteers here at the post and our unit. We all do it because of the love we have for this great organization, and what it stands for. It really is one of my great passions and the people here and the unity we have makes it all worth it! Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve you as Unit 36 President. Alyssa Neal

Burns Post 36 American Legion Riders June is here and the hot weather is upon us. Please continue to keep an eye out for motorcycles. They are out. It seems like every day I hear about a motorcycle accident. Let s all try to break that trend. The month of June, will be a busy one for the Riders. There are a few of us heading up to Carefree to represent Post 36 at the Convention. Others will be riding in the Run to the Wall (what we call Rolling Thunder), putting on a lot of miles enroute to Washington D.C.. God Speed and let s bring everyone home safe. As I write this, I find myself a bit sad knowing that this will be my last article as Rider president. The last 3 ½ years have been quite the ride. I know I can say that the Riders are heading in the right direction, as I took what Mr. Al Young started when he was the president and tried to make us, the Post and our Veterans better. I hope you do as well. Although sad, I am also happily looking forward to leading from the position of incoming Commander. A different avenue to make a difference in our organization. I can t wait to get started. In closing, I know the Riders will be in good hands with Mr. Don Bracken as president. Please support him as you have me. Thank-you, Steve Sperl, ALR 36 President Auxiliary Poppy Update I would like to Thank those of you that have already sent in or dropped off an envelope with your poppy donation.
