Special thanks to all that gave their time to the effort and helped to raise money for the Detachment. Prayers go out to all our sick and distressed members; get well soon. We need a special prayer for Don Benson who is going in for a hip replacement. He is going to the VA for the procedure so you can see why he needs the special prayer! I ran into a surgeon at the library who was checking out a book on hip replacements made easy. GOOD LUCK, DON! The Toys for Tots show went well. The show was great and those that did not come missed out on a great time. I will be doing some presentations this week and drumming up some volunteers for OUR Toys for Tots campaign, so if you wish to help, please let me know. We also went to the gun show in Timonium. Evie and Don will report on how we did there. There will be another Toys for Tots show on November 22nd. Look for details in the LASHUP and at the meeting. 2 Page 2 The LASHUP Comments from the Sr. Vice Commandant Fellow Marines, Activities are beginning to slow down as winter is approaching. I would like to thank everyone who came out to support the detachment for First Fridays, Adopt a Highway, Gun Shows, Parades, Operation Welcome Home, Bingos, Bowling at Perry Point and the regular detachment meetings, along with anything else I may have forgotten. Our detachment does so well because of the people who volunteer and step up to support activities. I would like to see every detachment member stand up to help at an activity at least once every month or two. There are many of us. More of us needs to get involved, instead of relying on the few who seems to volunteer at every activity. You should care about the success of the detachment as a personal endeavor. We, as Marines, were taught to work together for a common goal. Let s not forget the lessons our Drill Instructors instilled within us about supporting our brothers. With that said, please note that the detachment s Toys for Tots program will need support. Pete was an integral part of the T4T team and without him there will be a huge void to fill. Gene will need help delivering and picking up boxes, sorting and distributing toys. If you are able to help, please contact Gene. I will need two other hard chargers to help me with this. There isn t much involved, just contacting MIA members and making sure everyone in our ranks is up to date with the detachment s goings on. 4 Page 4 The LASHUP Membership Report Per the September 30, 2014 National roster the Detachment Strength stands at 90 members with 7 of those members unpaid. 47 are Permanent Life Members 11 of the 90 are Associate Members 3 are Dual Members RENEWALS: With the exception of Permanent Life Members each member must pay a $35 annual renewal fee each year. An annual membership runs twelve months from the month the member joined the detachment. Members who receive a renewal notice from National Headquarters should submit renewal fees to the detachment Paymaster, Dick Wischhusen at the next monthly meeting or mail a check to: Your soul may belong to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Marines. - Eugene B. Contact Mike Buckley mbuckley2@verizon.net Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award The Marine Corps League is proud to support the Boys Scouts of America program. As they achieve the level of Eagle Scout we would like the opportunity to present them with a MCL Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award certificate. The detachment is looking for members to present these certificates at upcoming Eagle Scout Courts of Honor. You continue to pay your normal registration fee at the time it is normally due. You must be a member in good standing and either the registered owner or co-owner of the vehicle. 8 Page 8 The LASHUP Detachment Shirts Available Don Benson can furnish Detachment members with golf shirts and sweatshirts with the Harford County Detachment Logo embroidered upon it. The price of the golf shirts and sweatshirts start at $30. There are several types of shirts and colors to select from. Contact Don directly at or him at msgte8don@yahoo.com if interested. History Book Dave is always looking for photos from events and activities in which to include in the Detachment History Books. If you have any, please share them with him. 9 Page 9 Cell Phones for Soldiers We have supported our deployed troops by collecting 2 phones in the past month. To date that is over 1561 cell phones. These phones are sent to a collection point and exchanged for telephone calling cards which are sent to troops overseas. This enables them to call family and friends at no cost to them. If you have collected any phone donations, please be sure to bring them to the next business meeting. 13 Page 13 Detachment Events and Raffles LASHUP Supporters Club Help Support our newsletter by getting some area businesses to place an advertisement in the newsletter. A full page ad costs $40, half page $25 and a business card ad is only $15. All ads will run for one year. The ads help offset the cost of publication and postage for the newsletter.
