1 20th Annual Fort Davis Mile-High Wildfire Academy This event will provide training to volunteer and agency wildland firefighters. The Mile High Wildfire Academy is striving to offer a variety of training for all those dedicated to protecting lives and property. The Texas Interagency Wildfire and Incident Management Academies provide training to wildland firefighters from Texas and through the United States to meet National Wildfire Coordination Group Standards. When: February 21 st through 24 th 2019 Where: Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department 200 Court Avenue Fort Davis, Texas REGISTRATION You can register online at or fill out attached form and send it in. Early registration is encouraged, as class size is limited. Payment must be made prior to attending the class, or paid during sign-in. Registrations are due by 1700 on February 21, Substitutions are welcome by close of registration; however walk-ins will not be accepted because of limited class size. Students enrolled in these classes will be notified and given the opportunity to register for alternative classes.

2 S-130/190 (includes I-100 & L-180) Basic Firefighter Training February This introductory course is designed to train entry-level firefighters. The student will gain an understanding of the basic incident management organization, firefighting techniques, suppression equipment, safety, strategy/tactics, along with basic fire behavior. Field exercises will be performed for valuable hands-on training. This course is designed for entry-level firefighters. FIELD EXERCISE: Scheduled for February 24th (weather permitting), full PPE is required to participate (nomex shirt and pants, or coveralls, helmet, leather boots, leather gloves, eye protection, fire shelter. Prerequisite(s): NONE CLASS HOURS 02/21: ; 02/22: & ; 02/23: ; 02/24: RT-130 Annual Fireline Safety Refresher Session A: February 22 (Class hours: ) Session B: February 23 (Class hours: ) This training is designed to provide up to date fireline safety information to those holding ICS qualifications requiring this training per PMS 310-1, Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide. Four core components will be covered: Entrapment Avoidance, Current Issues, Fire Shelter, and Other Hazards and Safety Issues. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of S-130 S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws February This is an instructor-led course intended to be presented at the local level. The course lessons provide introduction to the function, maintenance and use of internal combustion engine powered chain saws, and their tactical wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chain saw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fireline situations. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of S-130/S-190 CLASS HOURS: 02/21: ; 02/22: ; 02/23: ; 02/24: S-131 Firefighter Type 1 Training February The S-131, Firefighter Type 1 is designed to meet the training needs of the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) and/or Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). Topics include operational leadership, communications, LCES, and tactical decision-making.is course is designed to train Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) and Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) to identify environmental factors and indicators of hazardous fire conditions, and how to use these indicators when implementing the Risk Management Process. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of S-130/S-190 CLASS HOURS: 02/22: ; 02/23: ; 02/24: Understanding Wildfire Response Within the Incident Command System February 23 (Class hours: ) This class will be an overview of fire response starting at the local level through an elevated response to a Type 1 Incident Management Team. Topics discussed will be basic ICS structure, local responsibilities for response, State resource request procedures, and when and why out of State resources are utilized. This will be a group discussion on where locals fit in the ICS and discuss local responder responsibilities after the team assumes management functions for the fire.
