1 Volume 12, Issue 3 April 2016 Chopticon High School AFJROTC this year! Inside this issue: AFJROTC This year! 1 This year has been a great one for AFJROTC cadets. From Freshman finding their passion to Seniors being accepted into colleges around the country. This year has been full of amazing field trips, drill team competitions, and friendships being formed. We took field trips to the Andrew s Air Force Base, The Air Force Memorial, and much more. We made long lasting memories and friendships that will, hopefully, last for a long time. I saw freshman with the potential to do amazing things within AFJROTC due to their leadership ability and drilling skills. With a little bit more work they could become Group Staff material. I hope to see everyone succeed due to hard work and passion. I, also, hope that years to come will be as amazing, and even better than this year! 2 Page 2 What I Learned! During the first year of AFJROTC I ve learned a lot on how to be a good leader, how to properly and efficiently find and get a job that I want. I ve also learned how to differentiate between different cultures and how there are differences between different societies. I ve also learned how to be a good follower as well because every good leader has to be a good follower as well. During this year, I ve learned how to be a good team sport and how to problem solve under time constraints. I ve learned a lot on how to be a effective leader by looking up to those in higher command than myself, and by following in certain peoples footsteps. I ve also learned how to be a better person and the advantages at being a better person. I ve also learned how to create an maintain friends and who would be a good or bad influence on myself. During this school year in AFJROTC I ve learned a lot on different cultures, societal norms, how to be a good leader and a good follower as well, I ve also learned how to better myself as a person. -C/ Seth Dickerson

3 Volume 12, Issue 3 Page 3 A Seniors Thoughts This year has been a very influential one for me. Coming into this year I truly thought it would be the same as the others, but I was very wrong. This was my fourth, and final, year being a cadet. My last on the drill pad, in the uniform, leading cadets, being a line leader at Graduation, and so much more. You never truly realize how many things you have done in the last four years until you realize it will be your last time doing it. Many people think that they won t miss much once it s their senior year but that is not the case. I never understood why seniors didn t want to leave and tried to teach as much as they could before they left. Standing in those shoes with only a few more weeks left I completely understand. Seeing all the new cadets and seeing their potential I wish I could stay and see how they succeed in the next few years, whether in AFJROTC or not. It saddens me to think I won t be able to. I know many will forget my name, my face but I hope they don t forget what I taught them they found important. People take the opportunity s we have for granted but I hope when you guys are seniors that you don t. I hope you guys look back and realize all you ve learned, done and the impact you guys have made before you guys are seniors. -C/SMSgt Annamarie Doran

4 Page 4 AFJROTC From the Outside! AFJROTC has been a huge influence in my high school career It is not just from the cool uniforms that I always see in the hallways either. The people in AFJROTC are some of the best people in the school that I know of. They are extremely nice, respectful, and kind beyond belief. I remember in my freshman year being the scared girl I was, that someone from AFJROTC openly accepted me and that is a big factor as a freshman from a different school. I can also recall many times that I would be walking behind someone in AFJROTC and they would hold the door for me when most people in the school would just let the door close. I ve really appreciated this group of individuals in the school. To be honest it really does make my day to see someone from AFJROTC. They are doing something bigger than themselves and not just for people here at Chopticon but everyone around them. I m not the only person who appreciates them. I know that my friends have been helped by some of the people in AFJROTC multiple time in their school years as well. I believe that the whole school enjoys their presence. AFJROTC is seen at many of the school functions and have been seen do amazing things at their drill team competitions! That is not the only thing we are proud of them of, we are proud at how much they volunteer in the community. Since I am graduating, I know that I ll miss seeing them around because of how much o fan influence they had on my high school career. -Senior Jade Downs
