1 Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center Change of Command ///Press Release/// 01NOV2017 Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center held a Change of Command ceremony on October 15th, 2017 to bid farewell to Colonel Lawrence Schloegl and welcome the new Garrison Camp Commander Colonel Edward Hallenbeck. Col. Schloegl is a Michigan State Police Trooper and Commander of the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post. He and his wife Marianne have been married for 29 years and reside in Laingsburg, Michigan. Their children include daughters Brianne, Molly, and Laura and son Nathaniel. We wish Col. Schloegl and his family well as he departs for his next assignment as the Michigan National Guard Land Component Commander and his upcoming promotion to the rank of Brigadier General. Col. Edward Hallenbeck entered military service in He was initially assigned to the Headquarters Detachment of the 207th Engineer Battalion. He earned his commission through a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. After commissioning, Col. Hallenbeck continued to serve the Michigan National Guard as a platoon leader, operations, range, and facilities maintenance officer, and aide de camp. His following assignments have included multiple primary and assistant staff positions at Fort Custer and with the 107th Engineer Battalion, Chief Facility Engineer, and Facility Management Engineer. Hallenbeck commanded the 1437th Multi Role Bridge Company and served as the Executive Officer of the 107th Engineer Battalion during his deployments to Iraq in 2003 and He commanded the 107th Engineer Battalion and served as Deputy Brigade Commander for the 177th Military Police Brigade. He currently serves as the Michigan National Guard Chief Facilities Management Officer. Hallenbeck s military schools include Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captain s Career Course, Command and General Staff Course, Military Police Officer Transition Course, Activity Managers/Budget Analyst, and the U.S. Army War College (Class 2016). He holds a bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a master s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (w/1 silver and 2 bronze oak leaf clusters), National Defense Service Medal (w/bronze star), Iraq Campaign Medal (w/bronze star), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terror Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/silver hourglass and M Device). Hallenbeck is a military technician who serves as the Michigan National Guard Chief Facilities Officer for Michigan and works out of the MING Joint Forces Headquarters building located in Lansing. He and his wife Deb reside in St. Johns. Their children include son Nick and daughter Alexandra. We welcome Col. Hallenbeck and his family to Camp Grayling in his new assignment as Garrison Commander. Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center also wished Lieutenant Colonel Theresa Brown a happy farewell as she retired from the Michigan Army National Guard and welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Brian Burrell as he takes over for her as the Deputy Base Operations Manager.
2 Lt. Col. Burrell entered military service in 1989 where he was initially assigned to 334th Medical Group with the United States Army Reserve, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He earned his commission through Officer Candidate School June in After commissioning, Burrell continued to serve the Michigan National Guard as a platoon leader, staff officer and company commander. His assignments have included multiple primary and assistant staff positions. He has commanded the 1075th Maintenance (Marquette, MI) as Company Commander and is currently the Battalion Commander of the 246th Transportation Battalion. Burrell has deployed in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). Burrell s military schools include Ordinance Officers Basic Course, Ordinance Officers Advance Course, Quarter Master Officers Advance Course, ILE Common Core, and Advanced Operations Course. He holds a bachelor s degree in Finance from Central Michigan University. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (1), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass and "M" Device, NATO Afghan Service Medal, Afghan Campaign medal w/ campaign star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), NCOES Service Ribbon, ARCOTR, GWOT Expeditionary, GWOT Service, Michigan Service Medal Broadsword (5), Michigan Outside US Service Ribbon (3), Michigan War on Terrorism, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold). Burrell is currently a military technician who serves as the Deputy Base Operations Manager for Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center. He and his wife Shawn reside in Grayling. Their children are sons Thomas and Matthew and daughter Maryn. Burrell is a graduate of Walkerville High School Class of 1989 and is a graduate of Muskegon Community College and Central Michigan University (1994). Burrell is the son of Richard and Sharon Burrell who reside in Walkerville, Michigan.
