MOBILE DATA COMPUTING UPDATE: The agencies who have agreed to conduct this test are still awaiting word form the Department of Public Safety regarding access to the state infrastructure. In addition, approval of a recommendation to set aside $68,000 of Anti-Terrorism grant funds for this project is still pending final decisions at the State level. The local grant review committee approved this expenditure. PERSONNEL CHANGES: The photographs below show Coolidge Police Department s newest officers/employees. Belinda Brokeshoulder was hired as a dispatcher on August 1 st and Katie Hilborne was hired on September 12 th to fill the final dispatcher vacancy. Currently the department is fully staffed. Major Cases & Investigative Events: FOURTEEN-VEHICLE COLLISION: On September 1 at 2:55 PM, a fourteen-vehicle collision occurred on State Route # 287 between Nafziger Road and Christensen Road in front of the Valley Memorial Cemetery. The initial collision occurred when a small white truck rear ended a black compact car during a dust storm that was blowing off a freshly plowed field to the south. After the initial collision a full size red truck rear ended the small white truck, the full size red truck being disable on the shoulder of the west bound traffic lane caused a chain reaction collision which resulted in a nine-car pile up. After the first collision, an off duty Pinal County Sheriff Deputy directed a heavy duty flat bed tow truck to park his vehicle across the highway in an attempt to protect the first collision; this caused a second collision involving five vehicles. Approximately six people were transported to various hospitals via ground ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. One off duty Coolidge Police Department Dispatcher was one of the injured transported to Casa Grande Regional Hospital. There were also two county employees (unknown division) and a state employee among the injured.

BURGLARY/FRAUD: On September 4th and 5th the Water Shed was burglarized. The first burglary resulted in the loss of approximately $300. The following day officers were called back to the Water Shed and informed that entry had been made a second time, resulting in the loss of some tools, a checkbook, and a set of keys. On September 6 th patrol officers made contact with a female subject, a field interview resulted in the subject false information about her identity. She was arrested for giving false information to law enforcement officer and subsequently she was found to be in possession of forged checks, driver license, and identification cards.
