Jeannie is the manager now and Theresa is the assistant manager and bartender. We also have pickled hot sausages now for $1.00. They seem to be going over well. In May we start out with Mother s Day on the 8th and Memorial Day on the 30th. On Memorial Day the Post will have Open House and the canteen will open at 10:00 a.m. Then jumping into June we have Father s Day on the 19th and the first day of summer on the 20th. With that said, we re looking at cookouts and people needing ice. So if you re planning something or just need ice, let me know in advance and I will turn on the big ice machine. Report Pg. 4 AL Auxiliary Report Pg. 4 Membership Pg. 5 At the April meeting, the membership that was present elected Bob Michael Commander for I congratulate Bob and let s all support him and have a banner year. The state is having a raffle. Tickets are $5.00 each. The winning ticket has an option of a Paid-up For Life Card or $500 cash. Tickets are available in the canteen. On May 9th the Post will have a swearing in ceremony followed by an Installation Dinner at 6:00 PM. Come on out and meet and greet the new officers. Commanders Report On Saturday, May 14th, the members of the Post will be traveling to the VA Hospital in Elsmere to participate in their annual Carnival. Our Post provides hot dogs and goody bags for the veterans. It is a worthwhile day. Set up starts at 10:00 AM and the Carnival runs from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Rain date is Sunday, May 15th. Volunteers are needed. On May 30th we will be hosting our Memorial Day Open House at 12:30 PM following the ceremonies at Kiwanis Park. Come on out and participate as we pay honor to those who sacrificed their lives. At our June meeting there will be an election for an opening on the Holding Company. Since this is going to be my last article as Commander, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of the Legion, AL Auxiliary and SAL who have helped and supported me during this past year. 3 Page 3 1st Vice Commander Good things come to those who wait.better things come to those who get off their butt and do something to make it happen! - Author Unkown- There has been much activity at Post 6 this spring and more coming in the near future. We had the American Legion National Commander visit our Post on March 17th, and everyone enjoyed a great St. Patrick s Day meal thanks to our AL Auxiliary. We recently held Post elections and I would like to welcome Bob Michael (no relation) back as newly elected Post Commander, as well as wishing all the newly elected officers a good year ahead. Our next elected position to be filled will be a bar committee person. If you think you re the right person for the job, reread my opening quote and make it happen! On May 30th at 11:00 AM we will be having our annual Memorial Day ceremony at Kiwanis Park. With recent attendance numbers between people, come early for the best sitting places (bring your own folding chairs). We also held our first town hall style meeting on Saturday, April 16th. There were many people in attendance with a common goal, to do what s best for our Post. I plan to get off my butt and follow through as best I can on a couple items, starting with possible changes to improve the position of the pool table in the canteen. Finally, I hope everyone is enjoying this spring and getting ready for the upcoming summer. I think working together, it can really be a great year at our American Legion. Charles Michel 2nd Vice Commander As some of you may have been aware, I was recovering at the time of the Children s Easter Party and unable to do very much. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people who stood up and took the responsibility of making it a success: Bob McClain, Dolores Taylor, Bev Buchannan, Bert Pottieger and Lee McClain. Thanks so very much for purchasing and assembling the baskets, filling the eggs, buying and preparing the food, setting up and breaking down the hall. And a big Thank You to Raymond Tice who always does such a great job handing out the baskets. The children really enjoy seeing the Easter Bunny! Rich Gavlick Ladies, we are now at 98% of last years membership. Just a few more to go to make 100%. Just a reminder to members to let us know when you are either in the hospital, nursing home or rehab facility so that our Chaplain is aware of that fact. God Bless Our Veterans Nancy King

At Arms: Greg Hurley Hi folks! Spring is finally here, maybe. This means BBQ s and dinners. We had our first BBQ April 30th and we thank everyone for their help and support. A special thank you to Bill Miller and Theresa Reed for picking up the chicken. The SAL has appointed a fundraising committee which means more events and good times for everyone. We had elections this month, so come to a meeting the first Wednesday of the month to meet our officers and give us your ideas to help us be the best squadron we can be. See you at the meeting! I sincerely hope the efforts put forth by the Officers, Chairmen and Auxiliary members have been beneficial to the Post, Unit and community. But most of all, I pray that the veterans in the community have benefited. Plans are being made for the Department Convention, July 6-8, and I am sure it will be an informative two days. As most of you know, Unit 6 member Maureen Murray is the leading candidate for Department President. We wish her well and know she will be an effective leader. At the present time, Unit 6 has in its membership five Past Department Presidents: more than any other Unit in the state. Members have also held various Department chairmanships throughout the years. This shows our members are committed to serving The American Legion and furthering its goals. Again, thanks to all who assisted me this past year. Dolores A. Taylor

A bar maid s job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in pints and who was drinking in quarts, hence the phrase minding your P s and Q s. Last January on a bitterly cold winter s day, a North Dakota State Trooper on patrol came upon a motorcyclist who was stalled by the roadside. The biker was swathed in heavy protective clothing and wearing a full-face helmet to protect the face from the cold weather. What s the matter? asked the Trooper. Carburetor s frozen was the terse reply. Pee on it. That ll thaw it out. I can t said the biker. OK, watch me closely and I ll show you. promptly warmed the carburetor as promised. The Trooper unzipped and Moments later the bike started and the rider drove off, waving. A few days later, the local State Troopers office received a note of thanks from the father of the motorcyclist. It began: On behalf of my daughter, Jill.
