I am the new Captain of Tenderloin Station. I am honored that I was selected for this assignment. The foundation of our work at Tenderloin Station is our relationship with the community. Normally, our first contact with community members comes when an issue arises that demands a police response or is brought to us because it is unclear who, or what entity should handle the issue. When Tenderloin Station receives information about an ongoing issue, our management team works together to see what opportunities exist to eliminate or reduce the impact of the problem. Further, we evaluate whether there is a long term strategy that we can design that will sustain improved conditions created by police presence or enforcement. The leadership at Tenderloin Station roll out problem solving efforts on behalf of the community. While many of you have met the leadership, it is important to know the Patrol Officers, Footbeat Officers, and Special Assignment Officers work 24 hours, 7 days a week to patrol and improve the district. Please introduce yourself to the Officers you see in the Tenderloin so we can work together as a team to resolve issues in the district. 2 2 Page 2 Definition of Suspicious Activity Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is unattended, a window/door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur. Examples of Suspicious Activity: An individual peering into vehicles, to try, and locate any valuables left unattended. An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the vehicle and/ or residence. An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages.

I was transferred to Tenderloin Station in September of 2010, so 7 years. I am on the midnight watch and am usually assigned to the 3-car. What drew you to law enforcement? My grandfather retired from the San Francisco Police Department around the time I was born. Although he passed away when I was very young, I still remember him talking fondly about being a police officer. I remember one time when I was little he took me on a tour of Taraval Station, before it was renovated. He showed me around the station and I got to see the holding cells. 5 5 Page 5 Top Weekly Arrests Firearm Possession, Prohibited Person Booked: N/W PC, N/W 25850(c)(1) PC, 869 MPC 12/ hrs 7th St / Market St On-View Arrest Footbeat officers detained the suspect and a female acquaintance (later released) for attempting to sell a stolen laptop computer in the UN Plaza. The suspect was currently on probation for possessing a firearm in a school zone. During a probable cause search, officers recovered a possible stolen.22 Ruger firearm from the suspect s backpack.. Officers recovered the stolen laptop and debit cards. Suspect was placed under arrest without incident. CSI collected the firearm for processing. 12/ hrs Ellis St / Leavenworth St Narcotics, Possession for Sale Booked: HS, N/W HS, 11359(b) HS, N/W HS, (a) PC Tenderloin officers spotted Suspect standing in the area of Ellis and Leavenworth Streets. Based on prior contact, the officers knew the suspect was on probation with a search condition. After a computer check to verify his probation status, officers detained and conducted a probation search of the suspect s person. The suspect also admitted to knowing he was on probation with a search condition. Officers recovered suspected Cocaine base (rock), Cocaine Salt, Ecstasy, Heroin and Marijuana from the suspect s person. During the arrest, an unknown female that had been standing in the area called the suspect s mother. The suspect was allowed to quickly speak to his mother. While talking on the phone, the suspect made a spontaneous statement related to him admitting he was in possession of narcotics. Suspect was arrested without incident.
