Yavapai County Sheriff s Office has made an arrest on these fires. One vehicle was completely destroyed. The other three suffered limited damage. May 2, 2013: Single family house fire occurred at 3:11 AM. SFD crews were able to contain the fire to the crawl space under the home and a portion of the patio deck. 5 May 2013 Fire Chief Monthly Report Page 5 The Training Office gathers information on post-secondary education, certificates of completion, and major conferences. SFD provides daily drills and other types of training; the more significant training and educational achievements are included in this Report. Total Training for May: 104 Classes 580 Attendees Total Hours of 1,739 TRAINING / EDUCATION (May 2013): Required Training: Communication Supervisor Donna Woodley has met the requirements of the Board of Certification for recertification through the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. This is a two-year EMD recertification. 24 Operational members attended Structural Firefighting Hot Drill at the Verde Valley Training Center while on duty to meet the SFD mandates and NFPA 1403 for Live Fire. SFD TRT Confined Space Team trained at Verde Valley Training Center. The set up simulates a structure collapse. OSHA requires members receive eight hours of training and make one entry into an Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health area. National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training attended by Fire Marshal Gary Johnson for two year certification. SFD installs about 60 car seats annually. CRM has received grants and donations to acquire the car seats needed for this program. Helicopter short-haul technicians are required by the Arizona Department of Public Safety to train quarterly to be eligible for use in actual rescues. SFD performs approximately 15 to 20 rescues a year High risk, low frequency. Miscellaneous Classes: S-212 Fireline Sawyer course was instructed by SFD members who had just completed the M-410 Wildland Instructor Class at the Wildland Academy. The S 212 class qualified eight operational personnel as sawyers through NWCG requirements. Associates/Bachelor s Degree SFD received a Scholarship for $1, from PFCA Ponderosa Fire Advisory Council for courses our members successfully completed at the Arizona Wildfire Academy. These courses support the mission of SFD: Safe, Friendly, and Dedicated Service in Train the Trainer. Conferences American Heart Association Community Training assists SFD s Program Coordinator Firefighter/Medic Johnny Sedillo in his efforts of instructing the public classes in BLS Instructor and CPR/AED courses. In May, SFD had six attend the BLS instructor and eighteen attended the CPR/ AED courses. Certificates National Fire Academy acknowledges Firefighter Eric Walter for completing Incident Safety Officer. This will help reduce loss of life and property in fire and related emergencies.

6 Page 6 May 2013 Fire Chief Report Fire Inspector Kevin Sullivan completed Arson II through International Association of Arson Investigators. SFD investigates approximately 30 fires a year. This gives SFD the depth of having two investigators available 360 days a year. SFD presented Instructor I Class and had 20 emergency responders from around the state attend. Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence acknowledges eight of our members for passing the class and the exam. These members will be on the forefront in instructing classes within our organization through Train the Trainer. Lead Communication Supervisor Jeff Jennings completed FEMA s ICS All Hazards Communications Unit Leader class. He supervises Communication Specialists and Trainees in the daily operation of the Regional Communications Center. Telecommunications Technician Rich Scala recertified in Tower Climber/ Rescue for a twoyear certification in accessing radio towers for maintenance and emergency repairs.
