2 In January, 2013, members of the Metroplex Marines Coordinating Council were notified that funds were being cut by the Department of Defense for the Wounded Warrior Regiment s annual Warrior Trials and Games. While the active duty Marines and Navy Corpsmen conduct this program, all branches of our military may participate and benefit. The Wounded Warrior Regiment and the Warrior Trials and Games have provided a positive impact on our wounded warriors - reminding them that they are valuable members of our communities. This event has been successful in helping our wounded warriors to rebuild their self-confidence and self-esteem. They are then able to be positive mentors to those who will follow them with similar life experiences and suffering. Many of these warriors have returned to active duty and combat, or to the civilian workforce with pride. When this happens, they can resume their relationship as a spouse, parent, and family member. These men and women had their budget cut by $120,000, causing them to host these trials and games with a budget of $290,000 - barely enough to host this particular event. Guest Speaker: Sergeant R.V. Burgin, US Marines, retired Sergeant R.V. Burgin served in the United States Marine Corps for 36 months and 11 days; he spent 2 years, 7 months and 26 days of service overseas fighting in the Pacific in World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 24, Two years later, he joined the active Marine Reserve at the Naval Air Station in Dallas and was honorably discharged on November 29, Sergeant Burgin was presented the Bronze Star For heroic achievement while serving with a Marine Rifle company in action against enemy forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, on 2 May, Machine gunfire had pinned down the entire company, thus holding up their advance; Sergeant Burgin unhesitatingly left his covered position to locate it. Fearlessly exposing himself to enemy fire, Sergeant Burgin located the gun, directed mortar fire on it, and eliminated the position. Sergeant Burgin s heroic actions contributed immeasurably to the successful continuance of the company s advance and their reaching the objective. His outstanding devotion to duty was an inspiration to the members of the company and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Sergeant Burgin is the Author of Island of the Damned, A Marine at War in The Pacific, as portrayed by Martin McCann in the Steven Spielberg-Tom Hanks HBO mini-series, The Pacific.

6 Sponsor will be listed by name on TV screens set around the event Proceeds from reception sponsorships will help pay for overhead of this event, 100% of any proceeds left over after the overhead is met will deposited into the Wounded Warrior Regiment Note: Marketing for sponsors is highly appreciated so that 100% of seat, table, silent, and live auction will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Regiment. 100% of any proceeds obtained after overhead costs are met through other fundraising means will also go to the Wounded Warrior Regiment. With exception of event costs no funds will go to salaries. It is the mission of this event to use 100% volunteers where all possible to ensure that the sole beneficiary of the this event is The Wounded Warrior Regiment. This charity though the Metroplex Military Charitable Trust is served by retired Marines on the MMCC Advisory Council Lt. General Carey (ret.), Major General Williams (ret.), Colonel McCollum (ret.), and Colonel Seabolt (ret.) This event for the Wounded Warriors Regiment is NOT in partnership or part of the Wounded Warriors Project.
