In accordance with the approved suggested designs and with the provisions of paragraph 7-2, AR 45-2, the following insignia is authorized for Permian High School: a. Should sleeve insignia (SSI) with description and symbolism as follows: DESCRIPTION On a shield shaped embroidered item edged with a /8 inch (.32 cm) border, blazoned as follows: Quarterly Sable and Argent, a panther s head caboshed Proper, fimbriated and detailed Argent (silver), attached above the shied, a Black scroll edged with a Gray border, inscribed PERMIAN in Gray. The overall dimensions are 3 /2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 5/8 inches (6.67cm) in width. SYMBOLISM Black and white are the school colors. The Black Panther is the school s mascot and suggests ferocity, ambition, and the ability to protect. Shoulder loop insignia (SLI) with description and symbolism as follows: DESCRIPTION On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 3/6 inches (3.02 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Quarterly Sable and Argent, a cloud bank Argent (silver) in fess throughout behind a demi-torch Of Knowledge issuing from base of the third enflamed Gules, in chief, a panther courant reversed of the first. Attached below the shield, a scroll of the first inscribed PERMIAN in Silver.

2 AAMH-IHS SUBJECT: Insignia for Permian High School, JROTC SYMBOLISM The Black Panther is the school s mascot, which symbolizes ferocity and protection. The Torch of Knowledge alludes to the passing on of wisdom through education. The cloud bank represents the mystery and magic of the school s fearless spirit. CHIP COLORS Red # Black #26 White# Gray#39 2. The following are also enclosed for your use: a. SLI manufacturing drawing, black and white line drawing and color guide. b. SSI manufacturing drawing (A-0J-9) with black and white line drawing, universal camouflage pattern and operational camouflage pattern. 3. To ensure that insignia is manufactured IAW AR 672-8, please select manufacturers from The Institute of Heraldry s certified list. You will be required to provide one copy of the manufacturing drawing to each manufacturer from whom you are requesting a development bid and production of your insignia. 4. When you are in receipt of your insignia, please forward one color and one subdued sample of the SSI and one sample of the SLI to this Institute for our records. 5. This authorization letter will become a part of this Institute's organizational files for your school. A copy of this letter should also be retained in your school's permanent ROTC files.
